R&G makes rear spindle sliders for the S3:

and front fork protectors for the Daytona 955i (as well as the 05+ S3):

I contacted R&G and asked if the fork protector would fit the S3 (reasoning that the Daytona and 02-04 S3 share a front end--am I wrong here?) and the response was that the fork protectors for the Daytona only fit the Daytona. Can anyone here confirm that the Daytona front wheel and fork is the same part as the 02-04 S3 front wheel and fork?

Skyking also has a rear spindle slider for the S3:

made out of anodized aluminum.

I have the R&G rear sliders on mine, I've been waiting for R&G to release a set for the fronts. It's been quite a few months and I still see no availability of fork sliders, hopefully soon..

02-04 front end should be identical for S3 and Daytona 955.

Hey Brent,

Thanks for the info. I totally missed that on your site (didn't look under 'new stuff'). Can you confirm that the swingarm and fork sliders fit the 2002-2004 Speed Triple?

Also, the mounting system for the rhino sliders (looks like an expanding bolt that holds the slider into the axle, similar to bar end mounts) is notably different than that of the Skyking and R&G swingarm slider (a threaded metal rod passed through the axle holding the sliders together and on the axle thru tension). Can you comment on the sturdiness of the rhino mounting system?

How come Rhino uses ABS plastic whereas everyone else uses 'derlin'.

Thanks

I thought so too, being that the S3 is a naked Daytona with handlebars and a milder cam. This is the email I received when I asked them:
Many thanks for the email, I apologise for the delay in reply.

We don't actually make fork protectors for the 2004 Model Speed triple we only have them to fit the 2005. However we do make the Spindle Slider with ref: SS0007BK

Kind regards,

Molly Lamerton-Hunt

After reading this post, I looked up the sliders from www.newspeed3.com and they look like a cool design. And the price seems right. I was going to make a set myself, but I think these seem better than what I'd make for what is a reasonable price.... I think it's time to make the credit card company rich again.

I'd be very surprised if the '04 Daytona front wheel differs from the S3 of the same model. I have heard that the '02-04 bikes have a lighter front wheel (from the TT600) than the previous S3's.

Felix - I posed your questions to the owner of RhinoMoto. This is what he had to say;

Quote:
The tail going inside of the axel adds support against shear loads (hitting the slider from the side). If you think about the way a bike goes down, most of the initial impact forces the slider deeper into the axel, but there are side forces during the slide portion. We've never had a failure in a crash. It's really just a difference in design approach. The Skyking, R&G and Satos, with their rod mounting, are a perfectly valid design and should work fine as well. You will see that type of design in our products where the axel is too small for anything else, but I prefer the expanding tail where I am able to use it.

I use ABS rather than acetal (Delrin) simply because Delrin is not rated for uses that experience prolonged UV exposure, and being mounted on a motorcycle sure qualifies as that.
As to the fitment of the RhinoMoto sliders on the 02-04 S3, It's hard to say w/out trying. And unfortunately, we don't have a bike to test fit. If you would like a set, we'd be glad to send them out and offer a complete refund in they don't fit.

Thanks for the interest!
