Remember, it's a DRY cold up here so it's easier to dress for.
I keep track how early and late I ride sans-studs each year. The earliest was Feb 23 and the latest was Nov 9.

We're also lucky in that they don't salt the roads here, just sand, so less corrosion. Makes for some pretty dirty roads Springtime tho.

Here I am with the Daytona in front of a frozen waterfall along the Seward Hwy south of Anchorage at sea level.
There's a number of thick layers under those leathers.

I managed to get out and ride for a few hours last weekend, but I'm afraid that's it for this year looking at the forecasts. If it gets below 45 degrees, I don't enjoy it. I keep my Bonneville ready to go until about this time of year, then I prep her for hibernation. I entertain myself with motorcycles themes in books, videos and tumblr until my weather app reads over 45 at mid-day. Then I'm back in business.

Good thread btw, I enjoy different perspectives on topics like this.

My S3 is my transport to work so I have no choice but to ride every day as I have done for just about the past 37 years. I hate the salt but I oil up the bike with Scotoil 635 spray at the start of winter and it seems to do the trick. If it gets very salty then I will wash it off and re oil it all. The only things that concern me are the discs as I had to have the first set replaced under warranty after they rusted in the summer! I give them a dry with a cloth after each wet ride and a spray with disc cleaner. Chain always gets a good lube. Does the job in the worst UK weather....and it has been pretty grim this year....more heavy rain than frost up to now though! I will admit that there will be a few bus trips to work when it is too slippery due to early morning frost or snow but that is only usually no more than 10 days a year up here. I couldn't be bothered with all the hassle of laying a bike up for winter. I have never done it. Mind you if I lived in Scandinavia or Alaska I may have a different opinion!

Well, I have to say I admire the stamina of those of you who hibernate. 4 days away for Christmas and I'm climbing the walls! Home now, must put some miles on the clock! Happy new year everyone!

Im in Nh as well and concur with Rubber Biscuit about the road condition. Thats pretty much the trump card. As soon as the first later of salt goes down (which it just did yesterday) it's over. Cant even walk your dog on that poison.
