Cool Checking out a 2000 S3 on CL

FP here in the Speed Triple subforum!

I'm going to be checking out a bike this weekend and had just a question or two and was just looking for some casual input. It's a 2000 S3. Is there anything that could stand out as an issue or that I should be looking for? Should I be nervous that the owner doesn't have the service records?

Here's the listing

Thanks in advance.

Neil

Pretty solid bikes. Check the frame for signs of past fuel leaks. The plastic tanks and fuel fittings have known problems. Check all the hoses for signs of wear and cracking. They're fantastic bikes overall. I've got a 1999 with only 12,000 miles and its a hoot to drive. Torque all over the place and that engine sound is awesome. If it checks out I wouldn't pay more than $3000.

Thanks for the advice on the price and the heads up on the hoses & tank.

BTW, did I mention that I like the color of your bike?

The roulette green is epic! I get stares and comments everywhere I go on the bike. It's very unique. My favorite comment at a large Harley dealership, "that's a badass bike!".

Expensive for year/miles I would say

Are you in Petaluma CA? Why looking in Portland OR?

Thanks DEcosse for the tip on the price.

I am in Petaluma but there don't seem to be a lot of Triumphs out there. At least there aren't a lot of used ones in my price range. hat and I really like roulette green so it doesn't help to be picky about the color.

Here's the update from this weekend...

I couldn't get away from base long enough to check out the bike. My sister was cool enough though to drive up to Oregon to check it out. The fork seals and the tires were really the only two things she could see that need to be addressed but otherwise it looked great and ran great as well!

SO I BOUGHT IT!

Final price came to $3,100. I know $3,000 was the max recommendation but I really like the color. Can't wait to get the bike onto base and then out on the road. Hwy 1 along the northern California coast has to be one of the most beautiful rides here in The States. I'm really excited.

That's probably fair price.

I have to agree. I've never been on a bike in Northern California (only in a car) and 13 years later, I still have dreams of the 1. Enjoy sir.

Have fun on it! they really are great bikes. I rode from Santa Maria to Eugene, Ore. on my '74 Trident back in 1981, up Highway 1, and 101. It was in late July, and the weather was sunny and hot. 850 miles of fantastic scenery and roads! Hopefully I'll do it again.
