Just read the Motorcyclist comparo of the MV 1090R and the S3R. Based on their comments I don't think I'd even bother looking at the MV. Other than having more power, it basically sucked in comparison, in every way.

Oh... and it averaged under 30mpg, where the S3R averaged 39.

Now here's one from left field! Anyone ever ridden the Bennelli TNT 160? It's an evil looking beast with an even more powerful 3 cylinder engine. Combine this with the ohlins suspension, brembo brakes and slipper clutch and it would have to be a consideration!

The DR-Z would be a sweeet bike indeed! You could have so much fun on a super motard like this. If I wouldn't have got the Speed triple though, it would have been the Street Triple for me. Just can't beat the all around perfomance and reliability of the Triumphs.

Other Motorcycle: none... sadly
I'd have to go with the Suzuki B-King, or the Aprilia Dosoduro 1200 - but they are so different they are hard to compare to each other or the speed.

You are making me rather envious .......... and you come from Texas where oil is cheap and petrol is a fraction of UK prices ........... and the sun shines a lot on dry tarmac ......... and according to our television sets there are loads of billionaires and beautiful people .......... and the steaks are huge and the locals seem to prefer European bikes over home-produced bikes. Meanwhile my shiny white S3 sits in the garage waiting for the floods to recede.

Aprilia Tuono 1000R Factory

That V-twin has a sound and character that I just love. Amazing machine, but not nearly as forgiving as the S3. If I could find one for the right price, I would seriously consider selling the Speed Nipple for it...

I am very intrigued by the Dorsoduro 1200 as well, never had a chance to ride one though.

I owned an '01 Falco, and it was as much a hooligan as the S3. Not quite as comfortable, although I did put in some 400+ mile days on it. Fueling wasn't as smooth as my 955i, even with a Factory Pro custom map in it.

... but it was a magnificent machine ...
