There is more to it than just Cd, but in the case of bikes that's the big thing hurting us. I'm afraid I'm not enough of a physicist to give you the full skinny on it all.

As for the limiter, no, all bikes do not have a limiter any more than all cars have a limiter. As far as I know, the S3 does not have a limiter other than the rev limiter, and the bike cannot reach that in top gear with stock gearing due primarily to aero drag.

Of course some bikes do have limiters, just not in this particular case.

I am roughly 5'7 and 150lbs (if my math is correct), ride an 08 with stock gearing and I have had mine at an indicated 158MPH (254km/h) a couple of times. Racing a mate with a CB1000R as we were the only two riding nakeds, normally chasing a string of CBR1000RRs/GSXR1000s/R1 and ZX14. Never got round to giving it a go with a GPS to confirm but I can tell you it isn't pleasant at that speed.

Don't mean to thread dredge... but thought I'd add to the top speed info.

I recently competed in a flying and standing 1/4 event with Speedy

2010 speed triple
stock gearing (is that 18:45?)
20381 tune - with high mount CRMs and Bob's midpipe

No other mods

Best flying quarter was 243.9kph (151.5mph)
- note the above will be an average speed between the timing markers for the flying 1/4 - so max actual speed may be more (was slightly climbing still from memory)
- Max indicated speed for the same run was 262kph (162.8mph)

The same bike redlined on a dyno went to 266kph indicated

the 262kph was just shy of redline - I detected no bounce off the limiter

This doesn't account for the speedo error if it is the stock speedometer (unless you have it corrected, then just ignore this). Gearing commander states at 9250 RPM you will be at 155ish, which is about what I have heard before on stock gearing.

Mine had a top speed of 153 on the dyno (2012) stock gearing and tire size. Obviously that's top speed for the gearing, not necessarily what you can get the bike to actually do, but i've had mine to the top of 5th and don't think it would have any trouble hitting the limiter one more gear.

The problem I run into is that its aerodynamicly limited before you reach the end of the gears
