new to me bike
Hello all, I'm in the process of choosing a S3 to buy. I've just sold my Sprint ST in order to buy a S3 . I love the nekkid look and sleekness of the S3. So far I have 2 choices locally. A 2009 from the dealer with 24K.The dealer says he'll do the 24k service including valve check and also put on 2 new front rotors. The price is ok IMO. There is also 2006 S3 with about`33k on it. The 2006 has a carbon exhaust. Both bikes are or-ange. Of course the price difference is significant(about $2500), at least for me.
So my (stupid) question is which bike would be the most trouble free? Both bikes appear to have had similar maintenance. Was 2006 a worse year than a 2009 or vice versa? Or am I being too finicky? I must admit I'm anxious to pull the trigger on one of these. I may even make the dealer an offer since he did say he was accepting offers.

I have an 06 which has 70,000k on it now. Only had a couple of minor issues with it. If money wasn't an object i would go the 09 just for the updates (Brembo brakes etc). I think you would be happy with either. Go with your heart and what you can afford. They are both great bikes.

Go with your gut! If it was me I'd lean towards the 09' with less miles, specially if the dealer is going to throw in the 24k service which can be 600$ or more, (correct me if I'm wrong guys).

The 2006 is a fine motorcycle and the mileage difference is not enormous. They are pretty similar except for the updates the 2009 got (Brembos, updated ECU and exhaust system, metal gas tank). They are nice to have but don't transform the bike completely either. Your call to tell if they're worth $2500.

$2500 will buy a LOT of gas.
Just sayin'...

I decided on the 2006. After looking at it it seemed to be decent for the price. There were no obvious/noticeable defects. It started and ran great. The aftermarket slipons are scorpion carbon fibre and don't sound too bad, nice and deep. The tires are still good. After some minor negotiatons we settled on a price. I paid about $400 more than I wanted to but these bikes are fairly rare in my area and not a lot of room for negotiation. He was quite firm on his price but I did get him to drop enough to make it appealing after some thought.
It has a tidy tail on it with integrated signals but he has the stock fittings along with stock levers. He has 1 stock muffler but the other was damaged in a tip over so he replaced both with the scorpions.
Too late now, it's mine. I'll post pics when I get it home. So now after irritating the Sprint forum for a while I can now irritate this forum

I was able to pick the bike up today. It now resides in my garage.I rode it from the sellers and was surprised by how comfortable it was. The seat was nice & firm and not wide. I thought the seat would be too high for me but it wasn't too bad.I may not have to lower it.It felt very good on the 50 miin ride home in the cold.
It starts well and idles good. It doesn't squawk too much at 2000rpm but I try to keep it above 3K .The brakes are very firm without any slop.It has major whoa. He did tell me it has a new clutch in it and it does feel very good.I think I'm really going to like it !
Oh , I was mistaken. It's not or-ange, it's more like a harvest gold but it still looks good.If you notice the front lights , they're wrong for that year. He said he traded the round chromed ones with the later ones, not a deal breaker. He also will be sending me the online manual for it.
