Whats up with the collars on my rear shock?

Got it home yesterday and today I figure I would dial in more preload......the ***** things wont move...I used my ohlins tool and a screwdriver and hammer *** it will not budge.

I also notice theres some sort of collar on there is there a special tool for the rear on this beast?

Or get a bigger hammer :hammer:

The 2 locking collars are tightened against each other. If the spanner won't work it'll probably take a punch and hammer to break it loose.

Triumph, in it's infinite wisdom, has decided that your everyday rider isn't competent to set the preload on the new bikes. We're supposed to go to the dealer for this. Not that it isn't possible for us, but they went out of their way to make it difficult.

One of the few things that really hacks me off about the new Speed Triple.

Penske anyone? Or Ohlins?

I have an Ohlins with the remote preload, and the spring rate for my weight, along with the Race Tech springs in the forks. The suspension is the best upgrade you can do for your riding enjoyment, IMO.

I'm definately ditching the rear for the Ohlins. Brent at newspeed3.co has them. I juat need to save some pesos. I don't have an issue with the front, but may respring it at another time.

Using the Sport Rider mag suggested settings is working well. Interestingly the settings I dialed were only a bit different.

Oh, if you do try to break the collars loose, use a brass rod. It will keep from buggering up the collar.

ok so they are just tightened by King Kong himself :hammer: will get a bigger hammer and bust those puppies loose.

Oh and if your thinking ohlins or penske the better deal for a better shock is Penske.

Reasons why.
1.Penske is made of billet aluminum only the $2000+ohlins is
so this makes it lighter for those counting pounds.

2.Penske will be built for your riding style with the internals shims etc...where the ohlins is basic set up for all and then just has more clicks of rebound and compression.

3.Penske should be around $750 dyno tuned with correct spring.

So I like the bling of the ohlins but penske is a better shock for the money.

My duc has Penske shock with ohlins R/T up front
:-D

That's great, but is penske doing one for the Trip yet? I'm not in bed with any one shock, if penske can deliver both function and longetivity for less then I am in. BTW the Ohlin's is about 875... And I'm pretty sure it can be valved/sprung to rider taste and style...
