I bought the gel seat last year. Can't say I have noticed much of a difference.

Only done one long ride and my butt here even with the gel seat.

Older gen of course with solo riders seat.
But of course the real magic is under the cover.

I also endorse Spencers work .

There is no difference in the look unless you have him change the shape .

I just put a Luimoto cover on my seat. Very nice quality and looks great as per the pics on their site. They also have a product called "Gold Gel" which you can add for comfort but I don't have a problem with the stock comfort.

If you're thinking of doing this, be warned that stapling it into the 2012 seat pan is very, very difficult. Finally settled for T50 staples in an electric gun and even then not every staple went in first time. Very hard stuff. Don't bother with battery powered guns. Not powerful enough in my experience.

Having read the comment that "Spencer" claimed that the seat pan can crack, my experience is that it is baloney. I had to abuse the living hell out of it to get those staples in and not a single crack.

Here is another seat maker, I haven't tried any aftermarket seat other than Russell Daylong and Rick Mayer. The Rick Mayer was hell on my butt after 70 miles, I am talking ass burn to the max.

I picked up the Triumph gel seat early in the summer.

The two toned cover of gel seat appears to be of a better quality than stock and has an upscale look. The gel seat itself is firmer than stock and at first I found myself squirming sooner. By the end of the summer, however, the comfort factor was pretty much a draw.

I don't know if the stock seat would have been even more comfortable than the gel seat by summers end.

Now if I just bought a R and rode both bikes the same amount under similar conditions ...
