Looks like it's done with acrylic though. I'm not sure how the saran wrap would hold up exposed to a catalyzed paint with a bunch of harsh organic solvents. But now I'm thinking I'm going to have to do black and white, or maybe black and gold on my bike. Has it been done to a car/bike?

Also +1 for dark red. I painted a bike dark red and got many compliments.
It was done with Polycarbonate paint.

But from experience two pac clear over acrylic holds up fine.
Or better still use base coat paint that is intended to have a clear for two pack paints.

The dark red does look good however!

I've done that with lacquer paint. It was a pain, never again.

If you look closely at the image the red also has come black 'shading' and a black racing stripe down the middle. Not sure if i'd got the whole hog but it looks the dogs danglies in my opinion....I'm still looking for a cheap set of plastics for a 2005!!

That's a freaking cool idea! Not a lot of space to have a decal of a naked lady though:/ maybe just one luscious boob? Jk. I'm getting an 09 black but I love the white s3s, it looks so well with all the black machinery of the bike, a great contrast. Red is a pretty cool color, may I suggest a metallic burgundy type of color? That or British racing green. I love that that shade of color.

Lacquer is a very generic term and is not specific to the type of paint. Usually associated to wood finishes. Do you know exactly what type of paint it was?

Actually, it's not really "painted red". The fairing parts are made from colored composite fibre, comparable to carbon fibre. It was a one off to demonstrate the Ohlins goodies and partnership with Triumph.

Here's a bigger picture where you can see the fibers: http://www.bhmpics.com/view-triumph_...1920x1080.html

I thought it was a term designating a non polymer paint, where pigment is bound and deposited by a solvent, because I got a drop of gas on the tank and had to do it all over. I used that duplicolor perfectmatch touchup paint from rattle cans you see in department strores, but I get the impression anything that doesn't say enamel is basically useless as auto paint.

There are so many terms used so loosely in automotive paints that I don't really know what to think.

That is one beautiful bike. I got a 2011, but those round headlights make the bike
