Ok Joe and other guys! I rechecked my RR after a hard ride tonight so it was HOT. Here are the numbers that I found:

I rechecked both my RR connections HOT set to 20m ohm and got similar readings from all 3 plugs
.0 when connected to the black wires on the 4 pronged harness
.6-.7 when connected to the Red wires on the 4 pronged harness

Ok, I tired to fix the mixed up posting DEcosse, hope it makes more better sense!As for a voltage reading at the battery it is always a 13.5 hot or cold. If this is the case then my charging system is doing fine is what I gather and the problem is with my battery.

Hard to tell what is old or new - you really should just put new data I new post & leave old as-is
Quite simply - what is voltage across battery when running (hot or cold) if remains 13.5 or better no need to do any other tests


The '0' you show in r/r check doesn't really compute - cant see remotely likely that all three phases would measure short when hot and not when cold
Based on the .6 tho that looks like diode reading; reverse test lead polarity & retest (leave other numbers posted - want both)

I didn't have time to go for another spin and then retest the electrics. With work, holidays and being out of town.

I did ride down to Morgan Hill the week before last, took an hour and forty five mins. I let the bike sit outside in front of the hotel I was staying at. It sat for three days and when I was ready to head back it fired right up. I was worried but when it clicked over first time I was soooo happy!!!

Fast forward to this morning. Bike has been on the battery tender religiously, I have ridden in a few times in the last week. Temps dropped last night to around 40-45degrees. Came out at 9:20 and it was around 45-47degrees. Bike did NOT want to start. I tried multiple times (around 10?). Nothing at all. Super frustrated so I rode my Wife's Monster to work. Came home after work around 6pm. Bike started up first try and IT WAS NOT on the tender all day. I left and forgot to put it on. I let it run for a minute and shut it off. I tried starting it again and it would not go. I had my voltmeter hooked up and saw the voltage drop around 10 or 10.15. I turned it off for a minute and tried it 3 more times it started up fine each time. But would not go that 2nd time I tried to start it.

***? Bad battery? That's not even a month old...? Ugh.. All I want to do is ride my bike when its cold out? Is that so wrong!!!?

It really does sound like it's either that nice new battery or a connection somewhere that is intermittent.

I pulled the battery off and am keeping it on a tender in the house tonight. It won't get below 60 degrees. Will try it in the morning!!!

What kind of battery? Lead-Acid or LiFePO4?

Thanks for responding decosse. It's a lead-acid, I have had problems with my yuasa, my interstate and with this new battery, a WPS.

I tried the shori Lfx 14 and it didn't start the bike but once. They sent me a Lfx 18 and it was better but still didn't like to start my bike. I tried leaving the ignition on during cold mornings for 30 seconds, 2 minuets an even 5-7 minuets and it wouldn't start the bike. The battery seemed to work well on warm afternoons though but not amazing as others have claimed.

Last year my Triumph dealer replaced my starter as they thought it might be bad. It seemed to work but within weeks fell into the same funk I am back to now. Is it maybe another starter? Would doing the starter wire mod help my situation? I have read somewhere another with my problem ran a 2nd ground off the battery to the frame and this solved his problem? Anything logical?

Bit of an update here. Quite a bit has happened since the last post. Hit a deer going 65 a couple weeks ago; drove right though the impact. No cosmetic damage aside from some fur stuck in the wheel. Front end would shake with the front brake applied and I could feel some give in the tripletree. Brought the bike to Lonestar BMW for an estimate on repairs and they ended up fixing everything on the spot! Turns out all that was wrong with the bike was a loosened top bolt on the tree.

While I had the bike there I had them update my map and so far I haven't noticed any detonation on acceleration. Runs like a charm! (knock on wood)

OMG kipper that is damn lucky. I am glad all is well. I would have shat a brick!!!

So this morning at 8:30am and 41 degrees I took the battery from inside the house off the trickle charger and put it back in the bike. She fired right up no problem. I turned her off after a minute, went inside and finished getting ready. When I left for work she started again but with a small hiccup. After work about 55degrees out and she started fine but with the same little hiccup.

I would think this test isolates the two. 1. Cold bike, all connections cold. 2. Warm battery, 60+ degrees instead of the normal 45 degrees where I have been having problems.

Seems it is my battery and I am gonna go have the shop check it out tomorrow. Perhaps I got a dud battery? Is that likely? Perhaps there is something else up with my bike that is messing up my batteries? I'd love to fix this if its my bike.

I plan on buying an optimate charger as I have heard good things. From what I understand it desulfates batteries and perhaps this will help my situation?
