After only a month of sitting in a warm garage, my S3 is suffering from poor charge. (lights on but won't crank)
I remember charging a 12V motorcycle battery by hooking it up to my car in the past but don't remember how that resulted. Would the car fry the battery even at idle?

If that won't work I'd appreciate recommendations for a decent charger. Thanks!

BTW, can you jump start a fuel injected bike?

sure you can jump start a fi bike. I've done it on a few different models. But the best prevention of this for your battery, is simply ride it! I've never, NEVER had to replace a battery in any of my bikes and 2 of them I had over 3 yrs and put 30k miles on each of them, and another I had over 2yrs and put 24k miles on it. Goes to show you that batteries should last. Btw, never even had to jump off any of those bikes, and I never used a battery tender! Of course I understand that some of you guys have some "real" weather conditions to maybe persuade your rides thru the winter. Luckily, we atleast have a few warm days here in NC to still ride!

Best idea I have come across is the "OPTIMATE" charger/desulfater. It works for me . Get that one or one of the other ones and forget about batery troubles over the winter.

Lom,

I hope you get your bike up and running soon. But I agree with some of what CB said - there's likely something not right with your bike or battery. A month's downtime in a moderate place like LA with a one year old battery should not leave you without a spark.

Possible problems include:
-bad battery
-charging problems
-voltage leak

You may also want to confirm your battery connectors are tight. My '02 loosens up far more often than I would expect.

Good luck.

I tore the whole electrical system out of my Busa a few months back cause the lights were on but wouldn't crank. I hate to admit it but the cause was the on/off switch on the throttle grip was off. We learn the hard way.

I have 3 battery tenders and I use them all year round.
They work great and extend battery life.

Yes you can jump start your bike.

You can also push start it.
