A month's downtime in a moderate place like LA with a one year old battery should not leave you without a spark.
That's true. However, batteries can have suspect pasts. The bike may only be a year old, but the battery could be twice that old and not have had the best of care prior to ever being in the bike. It's entirely possible that the battery is bad.

Thanks a lot guys!

Looks like I'm 30-50 bucks too heavy and need to shed that, as none of you commented about hooking up the battery to the car.

I had meant to say push-start, not jump-start, but you answered that too. Comforting to know it's an option if it acts up at the canyons.

yeah LOM, just to clarify, I understood what you meant by jump start, so when I said I did that on a couple of fi bikes, I meant I push started them. Just wanted to clarify. Hope the battery tender solves your issues.

They work great and extend battery life.

Yes you can jump start your bike.

You can also push start it.

I have one battery tender which is switched from one bike to another (3 in total as my sons stores his in my garage).
The battery on my Trophy is original and it is 5 years old and bike has over 40,000 miles on the clock. Never had a problem ..................sods law might prevail now though.
All our biles are fitted with permenant connectors so its hassle free just plug in when parked up for the night.
