Sometimes I get a pretty loud backfire on deceleration. Is this common for Triples with a free-flow exhaust? It doesn't happen on every deceleration but it usually happens at least once per ride.

PS - I tried the search but came up with nothing. Hope this topic hasn't been beaten to death before... :-D

The search feature here is near useless. But the answer is...yes, very typical. I very rarely have what I would call a loud backfire but often have lots of smaller "pops" on decel. I think it's kind of fitting for the bike's attitude. I have the same pipe as you with the new tune.

Yeah, I get the pops usually, but every once in a while, I get a backfire that turns heads I guess it's just a rich tune

Hey beers, I see you are in great moto-riding country! I went to school in Blacksburg. Those VA police have a real hard-on for speeders!

Blinker, where you from in NC? I'm near Winston-Salem, if you're somewhat close, we ought to hook up and ride sometime. I live about 15 mins from some awesome roads(Hwy 89, 8, 66)! If you're nearby let me know and we'll carve some corners one weekend! You too Beers, I'm only about 40 mins away from VA depending on where you're located. You guys shoot me a pm or email and we'll ride sometime!

Sounds good, I'm hoping there will be another warm weekend soon. I heard about a group of riders who meet around the Piedmont Triad Airport and ride from there. Do you usually ride with them?

BTW, I'm in Raleigh.

nah, I don't know about those guys, but I'm not too far from the airport. Raleigh isn't too far. You just let me know if you're planning on heading up here one weekend. I think some of the guys I ride with do an occasional ride to Raleigh sometimes, if we do that, I'll give you a shout. I can show you some awesome roads up here if you don't know them already.

I know a few of the roads around here. There's a group I try to ride with at least once a month (when it's not too cold), and that's fun. Those guys really know the back country roads, and I depend on them to get me back to somewhere that I recognize because I usually end up not knowing where I am!

Blinker, how many miles do you have on your 02? Mine popped like a bastard even after a custom map on a dyno until around 10,000 miles. Then I got the latest offroad map thrown on the ECU around 12,000 to try it out and haven't noticed any pops since. I plan to put the bike back on the dyno in the spring to see if I can get a better map done myself, but popping is common for the TOR cans, especially the high mount CF pipe.

I think I'm getting close to 7000 miles. Maybe I'll get the dealer to check the map at some point.

Another thing that bugs me about this high pipe is the air flow behind me plus the high pipe = stinky jacket and jeans. The nice look and killer sound make it kinda worth it for now though!

Wow, if you've got a stinky jacket and jeans then you must be running way rich. I don't recall ever having that problem with mine.

... Then again it could be you need a shower... lol.
