I recently replaced the clutch in my 1999 S3 with 30,000 miles, and could not find aftermarket plates and springs. I went with OEM and was advised to get new springs to be on the safe side. Six new springs at $4 USD each was worth the peace of mind. I believe total cost for the clutch parts was under $300 USD.
