Ignition coils on '95 S3

Recently acquired a '95 S3. I have been trying to work the bugs out. Bugs being , a perceived carb. problem and tach not working . The previous owner had problems with the carbs. However, it appears that the problems may be the result of a bad #3 coil, secondary winding. As I understand the #3 coil also sends to the Tach. I will know soon in that a new coil has been ordered. Anyone have any experience or knowledge about the tendency of coils to go bad on this bike ?

I have owned a 95 Speed Triple for 10 years and have had 0 problems with the coils, I have not heard of any problems with coils. The ignition pick-up has had the reputation for failing - once again I had 0 problems. However I have had the Tacho fail electrically.

The coils on the T-3's are famous for going bad. I'm guessing that there was a huge bad batch initially. I replaced two of them early on but have had no problems since. My T-3 Sprint 900 has 65,000 miles on her and she runs strong and never misses a beat.
