I'm want to add heated grips to my 06 S3. I have looked at "Hot Grips." They will do the job but the electrical wire on the throttle side is outside the bar and moves with the throttle. The manufacture says the wire did not break during a 1.5 million turns of the throttle test they completed.

I'm not that concerned about the wire breaking off the throttle side. I am concerned about the wire being in my way.

Does anyone have experience with Hot Grips? Could I adapt the heated grips from the Tiger?

Thanks! :-D

I have the Symtec (formerly dual star) heating elements installed on my S3. The wires for the throttle side have a small loop that extends about 1/2 inch forward, but to the inboard side, completely out of the way, but enough length to keep from binding or running out of throttle travel. I went this route, because of the hi/low function without resistors and the ability to change grips.

Dig around, there is a thread with more info about heated grips as well.

I have some heated grips on my CBR ( don't need them on the S3*), similar to the Hot Grips you were looking at. The wire does not get in the way, but the grip does tend to slip on the throttle tube so that the wire points upwards instead of down. I used glue when I fitted the grips, but the heat from the grips must soften it and allows the grip to move. It's not a major problem, just twist it back into position when you close the throttle.

*If it's cold enough to need heated grips, there's likely to be salt on the road so the S3 stays at home

I just installed HotGrips on my '06. Here's the thread: http://www.triumphrat.net/modules.ph...35559&forum=19
Also did a short writeup at www.s3.palocsay.net

I put them on my wife's 01 Suzuki SV650 about 5 years ago and had no problems. I had Triumph heated grips on my '00 Sprint. They also have the wire at the end of the grip. Never had any problem with them either. The wire is not in the way. It's below the inside end of the grip. I can't even picture how you might let it interfere when you're riding.

We've been iced in but plan to ride Sunday and I expect the grips will help keep me comfortable. Very good product and good company to deal with.

FrankP,

Nice writeup but I have to point out that the $26 Symtec (Dual Star) under grip heaters do indeed work very well. Besides the superb heat, you get to choose which grips you like, a major advantage. As far as reliability, I've used them on my Triple and other bikes for years with no problems.

beers2u - how did you put the link in your earlier message?

I was chicken to use the heaters you used. I found several users who did have trouble with the wires on the throttle side and wanted to do the grips one time - so I spent the extra $75 or so.

It did bother me a little that Triumph didn't bring a fused wire to the front of the bike - or even make the two empty fuse positions usable. But this is a very small gripe about a very nice bike.
