Alright guys, I'm getting the hang of this S3, I've never been a gear changer in the past while on one wheel, but I'm thinking I wouldn't mind learning. Simple question, let me know who uses the clutch and who doesn't and why you feel that way. I just know that a couple of my buddies that can do some pretty good wheelies, say they still use the clutch just as a normal shift, but I'm afraid I would lose too much throttle than just a blip and toe. What's your thoughts/experiences?

I stopped doing wheelies 25 years ago when I went over the back on a tuned KH400. However when I did it before I changed up without the clutch. I just eased off the gas a very small amount to give the g'box a chance.
When I first got the s3 she would not change up without the clutch. now she's loosened up and changes up fine.

Sorry about the picture but its a 1979 vintage.

Nice pic, mhanger! That's what I'm thinking is the easiest, blip the throttle, and click a gear! But since I've never actually done it(well, I have a few times on some sport bikes, but nothing routine), I just wanted to get some other opinions on the triple! Keep 'em coming.

i usually just click up, on my r6 I had to clutch but my triple has 30k on it so it's not exactly tight anymore.

Yamaha looks good mhanger! I'd like to get me an older bike to fix up. I'm looking at a Yamaha XS650 now, but don't know if I'll have the funds to actually get her. It's sweeet! Like the one's they used to dirt track on! You just suck! You got my ART cans that I want, a sweeet custom painted tank, a mint 79 Yamaha, and a cool azz wife! Next, you'll probably get the other bike I'm wanting, the Rocket III. Anyways, kudos on 2 awesome looking bikes. Maybe I can atleast learn how to ride a better wheelie than you! :nana:

Cheapb...
Sure thing on the wheelies; my days of one wheel riding are over. No bottle !!!! I too would like a R3 but my diamond of a wife would probably flip her lid. One of the boys in our RAT club has one so maybe he'd let me have a go?

I am still learning shifting with and without using the clutch. I also need to shift while doing a standup.

If you can attain a your point of balance quickly (sweet spot) you will never have to shift unless you want to go faster. I can get my S3 up on one wheel on the first four gears, no clutch, I have heard many times that clutching is a lot safer and predictable. I will practice that too next summer.

I can hang some pretty mile long wheelies all the time.

Take care and be careful!

Practice, practice, practice!

Ton Up!
