"watch out for a new 675 Speed Triple, a meaty streetfighter based on the new Daytona 675. Taking over from the Speed Four, itself a stripped down TT600, the bike is likely to break cover in the early part of 2007. Triumph is remaining very tight-lipped about the bike's existence, giving further credence to the rumors!"

Like the 675 itself, one of the worst held secrets in the motorcycle world.

As further evidence, my dealer told me that the factory rep told him "you will never see a 1050 Daytona."

What this tells me is that the 1050 engine is a last-gasp effort for this engine range, kind of like the Daytona 650 was for the 600.

Note also that the 675 makes almost as much horsepower as the 1050.

Either way, my beautiful black Daytona 955i SE is d@mn near worthless. Instead of selling it which I have tried to do for four months, I'll just have to ride it.

If they leave the tail section on the 675 Speed 3 like it is on the Daytona...I might just have to have one.

Other than being tuned for low-end torque, why bother with an S3 model 675 when you could just buy a 675 daytona and strip off the fairing to keep in the garage for trackdays? All you'd need is a different top triple for handlebars...

Could a 675 really reach the same torque numbers of a larger motor without being supercharged or turbo'd?

No. I'm sure the 675 S3 will be a fun and fast bike but it won't be as "hooligan" as the big torque naked bikes such as the KTM, Monster S4, Tuono, TNT or the 1050.

The MV 750 brutale, for example, has plently of HP but suffers badly from a lack of low end torque. The 675 might be a little better but it still won't come close to matching the 1050s bottom end.

The 675 engine will be much better suited to the Daytona format in my opinion.

A 675 based S3 would be a nice addition to the current lineup. Is all about having choices.

If they are thinking about ever replacing the 1050 S3 with a 675 S3, then it will be time for me to shop for a new ride when replacement time comes around 2008.

I need TORQUE! Perhaps a KTM or a Tuono. Or a similar Hooligan machine.

Hopefully by then Triumph will be making the 1050 even better, more power, more torque, better handling.
