I was reading an article that I thought you guys would enjoy.
Uncommon Motorcycles article -

So... a customer of ours has this Triumph Speed Triple, see? A guy he knows has a Buell S1 with all the Screamin Eagle parts and V&H pieces and it sounds REAL FAST! After some words were exchanged our customer agrees to race the Buell and just to make it interesting says he can beat the Buell while riding a wheelie for the entire quarter mile. Result? Buell 12.8, Triumph 12.4 and he never got past third gear.

Like we said, the Buell sounds fast.

This page has created some controversy. Predictably, the Triumph crowd loves it, the Buell folks hate it.

This was not a set up or made up page, it actually happened. It describes real events. Was this particular Buell representative of all Buells? Were these riders representative of all riders? Hard to say, though equal riders on these bikes would see the Triumph win, every time. Is it a slam on Buells? It's more like a performance check. There are heavily modified Buells that could probably do better but this Triumph is basically stock. This Buell was already modified for performance. Form your own conclusions.

One thing is for sure... the dude on the Trip is talented!! If you look closely the guy on the Buell is looking at the guy on the Trip.

I rode a Buell in the search for what I wanted. Very simple, not even CLOSE...

I ran across that bit about a year ago. Funny then, funny now.

Over the summer I raced a brand new Buell XB12S ridden by a very charming (but unfortunately married) woman. We raced quite a few times, until she got tired of losing by an average of 1.5 seconds. Not mad, just wanted to have some more even competition.

The interesting thing here is that I weigh every bit of 200 pounds stepping out of the shower, while this cutie probably weighed 120 with full leather and helmet!

Side note: Buell Girl's husband was there too, riding a new Harley V-rod. She could consistently beat him :-D and funnier yet, he destroyed his clutch in about two months of weekend racing. We didn't have the heart to tell him that John's Trident (who beat him consistently as well) had over 40,000 miles on it's clutch.

I tried out a Buell too. Wanted to buy American if I could (I like British too, but I didn't know much about the Triumph at the time, must BMW).

I spent all my time shifting with that 5k redline. So, I bought a triple.

My buddy's XB12 is pretty close to my 03S3 in acceleration, but on the top end I just consistently pull past him. He'll eventually get his motorwork done, and I'll get the supercharger. Then, the real fun will begin.
