I knew i had an oil leak, took it to the shop last week. They had the bike for a total of one week.

They could NOT find it

Well low and behold did a 480k ride yesterday, to find this on the way home

As I kept an eye on it through out my ride...Bought this new in 2011 on the 6th month I have a total of 5900k's on the clock.

Would like to know if anyone has an issue in the same area?

Clean/ dry off the engine thoroughly, then powder it with either baby powder or flour. Start it up, then look for the wet spot. This will tell you exactly where the leak is coming from.

Seems like a lot of the 2011s are having oil leaks... weird. Mine was leaking at the head gasket.

Mine is a 2009 and I had an oil leak also. I cleaned it off with brake cleaner and dried it off. Then I checked the oil pan bolts and they were loose. So I tightened them down and the leak went away. I check them every time I change the oil. Hope that helps

Did you check oil level ? Overfill would lead to a leak too.

Start by doing what the other members have said here.The first service I had done at Procycles Hornsby, they only put in 2.6 litres of engine oil and it needed 3.8 litres to meet the maximum level on the dipstik, so there is a chance too much oil could have been put in. None of the bolts were tightened at the service which they are supposed to do so that could also be the problem.

Thanks for the reply lads, I have cleaned the spot and continue to look for the oil leak. Never over filled as I do my own filter and oil. Just go to the stealer ship for them to stamp my book and check it over

Always use a new washer and a genuine filter. Will also check all bolts in the morning.

Just waiting for daylight so I can see where it is coming from.

I'm having a similar problem, but I've been putting off a trip to the garage for far too long!

It's about 100 miles from me; and so I want to top it up with oil before I go - "just in case".

The problem is; I've no idea if there's 10W40 currently in there, or 15W50 (or semi or fully synthetic!).

Will I do any damage if I put a few drops of the wrong grade in?

no.

And Sammy- it's hard to see where oil is leaking from on clean black cases... hence the powder

I've found the same issue on my 08. The oil pan bolts will loosen themselves every 2500 miles or so.

Use an open ended wrench for the hard to reach bolts. It will not SEEM as if the oil is leaking from those bolts but it is. Clean up the pan, tighten each bolt and you'll be good to go!
