Hey Guys,

I'm looking at going with the Black Widow Exhaust. The single swing arm kind of gets hidden by that big pipe hanging on the side of the S3.

I read that the carbon fiber pipe keeps the heat down but, makes the bike sound like a bumble bee.

Do any of you have these pipes and do they change the sound from BAD to LAUGHABLE?

I don't want to sacrifice THE NOISE for cosmetics.

Thanks

Check out some of the 'older' threads on undertail exhausts...

I've heard that the Black Widow is a pain to install, involving lots of cutting, relocating the coolant reservoir, and some electrical re-routing... Looks cool though.

PowerMax makes an undertail system that they claim does not require any cutting or relocating of systems.

Not sure how the sound is, but I'm sure it's louder!

I weighed the option of MANY exhausts and wavered back and forth from one brand to another. Started with the Black Widow, then went to the PowerMax, then I was drawn to the Renegade system, then decided that maybe a standard OEM style slip on was best and opted for the Leo Vinci (this was after reviewing and considering the Akrapovic, Arrow, Micron, Two Brothers, and others) only to find out that Leo Vinci is not importing the Titanium to the USA anymore. So, I made a last minute decision to go with the M4 standard mount Titanium instead. I had a full M4 system on my TLR and was VERY happy with it, so I opted for the M4 again. I couldn't justify the extra $830 for the Black Widow or the PowerMax, nor the extra $500 for the Renegade. There's a lot of other goodies I can get with that money ... Although, the underseat systems look really cool.

I installed a black widow on my 02'ST and the bike sounds and rides wonderful. Yes, there is the whole issue with cutting the stock exhaust in order to couple the black widow system, but not very difficult. The rest of the system is simply relocating and replacing existing components with black widow supplied components. Also, I have had many applaud how well the system makes the bike look and how well the can fits under the seat. Black Widow supplies a carbon fiber component that mates the exhaust under the tail-light for a very clean affect. All in all, I went through the same process everyone else went through (powermax, renegade, etc), and after the first crack of the throttle I new I made a good solid decision. You won't be disappointed, and happy riding.

I didn't notice any heat rising up through the seat when I switched to the BW.

The exhaust note isn't particularly loud, but it doesn't sound like a bumble bee. It's different, but comparable to the Triumph high pipe.

But one downside (aesthetically) is the relocation of the overflow resevoir.
