has anybody gt this helmet? I am thinking of buying one and wondered how they perform. I have an Aria Astro J currently, which is very comfortable but noisy. I heard the S1 is very quiet?

Don't have one myself, but my friends tell me the S1 is of supreme quality, very silent as far as helmets go and has annoying neck freezing buffeting behind ones neck.

After several Shoei's and Arai's I use a Schuberth now, and I'm very pleased with it! Not only the integrated sun glasses are nice, but it's very comfortable and so much more quieter!
I love it

My friend has one and he really likes it a lot for longer trips. I have a Arai and I really like it. A little noisy.

$650+ for quiet? I'll continue to use ear plugs.

Thx for the input. I dont think it is expensive as long as it is a top lid. You pay similar prices for Arai and Shoei. I like to know I have the 2nd best part of me (according to my wife) covered well.

I have full trust that the quality of Schuberth is as good as Arai, I trust the German quality

That's if you believe that paying more is equal to more protection. Read THIS ARTICLE and see if you still think so afterwards. It's long, but worth the time.

Here's a quote:

"Fiberglass helmets such as the the Arai Tracker showed substantial damage to their shells after the edge impact. The polycarbonate-shell helmets were largely unmarked. Neither result is essentially better: Either shell material can be used to make excellent helmets. Polycarbonate helmets generally transmit fewer Gs to the head in our testing than fiberglass-shell lids, even when certified to the same standards.

Regards,
Capt.

Thanks Capt. I read the article (you were right on the length) and it certainly does ask some questions.

There are other factors on top of safety as well such as the build and fit etc. so I could not feel good buying a really cheap helmet.

Interestingly the Schuberth S1 is a helmet that is mentioned in the report as one that is very expensive but that came through the tests extremely well. See below:

"Another helmet that taught us a thing or two was the Schuberth S-1. The Schuberth is certified to the ECE 22-05 standard, which dictates impact energies marginally higher than the DOT standard. Like the Z1R ZRP-1 and the Fulmer AFD4, it has relatively large outer dimensions, leaving room in the shell for thicker, and presumably softer, EPS. And like the DOT-only lids, it soaked up energy like a sailor soaks up Schlitz. If you can't bring yourself to wear a $79.95 helmet just to get excellent energy management, you'll feel very comfortable with the Schuberth, which sells for $640 to $700. "

Thx again for the input and link to this article and lets hope we dont need to put any of the helmets we wear to any of these tests in real life..
