:???: Anyone out there experienced problems with the two fuel quickrealese couplings into the speed triple (03) tank? Triumph made a recall in 2004 to get these replaced. Mine were replaced but still getting the leaking fuel from the connection. Can anyone tell me if they are supposed to be stainless or the plastic connections, and do the two half's have to be replaced?

Only the male connectors (attached to the fuel lines) are replaced by the recall. The female pieces are not covered. However, you can buy the metal female pieces as well (they are pricy).

If you do a search you can probably find them. They are made by a company called Colder. Maybe try Great Bay Motorcycles.

WAIT! Before you replace any female connectors check your O-rings! I got a nice little section of one of mine chopped when reconnecting fittings and ended up with a nice leak of my own. All I had to do was replace the O-ring and the leak was fixed. The rings are black so you'll have to dry them off and look closely to see if there are any cuts, nicks, or chunks missing.

O-rings can be found at any Autozone or similar auto parts emporium.

The male connectors should be one solid stainless piece with the hose clamped onto it and, at least mine, has two O-rings per connector.

The O-rings have to be Viton, which are fuel resistant. Good quality fuel fittings can be found at www.rideteamtriumph.com. Or Colder. I replaced mine before the recall.

I already had the metal male fittings on my 02 and I just replaced the female plastic pieces with part number 5478K71 from McMaster Carr which were around $11 each. They are the CPC (Colder) fittings and are self sealing. They are chrome plated brass and I found that they would thread into the tank farther and easier when I wire wheeled some of the chrome off the pipe threads.
