Winter storage.. whats the routine

I'm preparing myself for the unfortunate neccessity of putting the bike away in the (unheated) garage until the fair weather comes back around again.

What is ideal when putting the bike away, do you put the bike on stands (is it recommended) to keep the wheels off the ground, 'tend' the battery. What else? I know there is a 'winterizing' routine that occured on carbureted bikes but what is recommended on these modern bikes? Is it no different? And consider were talking about packing it away for 3 months -4 tops.

Here's what I do. I put the bike up on front and rear stands to keep the wheels off the ground, and to make it harder for the mice to move in, like that works! I stuff socks full of mothballs in the intakes to deter the little fookers. Put the battery on a Battery Tender, in the bike or inside. Spray the bare aluminum parts with a protectant to prevent oxidation. Make sure your A/F is good for -35. Buy Decon and keep resupplying all winter to kill those wire chewing mice. I've had to repair damage to my wiring harness, so feed them every 2 weeks.
