So I just took my '02 S3 in for it's 6K mile service. The service went smoothly except for one problem - when they downloaded the latest tune, the bike wouldn't start. Their tech guys are saying that the bike developed an air leak in the system and the bike adapted to it. Now that they've got the new tune on board and it won't start, they have to track down the air leak and fix it...

Mind you, the bike was running perfect when I dropped it off...

Any ideas where the air leak could be coming from?

So the Triumph dealer doing my 6K service finally tracked the source of the air leak down (after losing a weekend of awesome riding weather!)

It appears that a rubber boot and a kinked hose leading to one of the throttle bodies was the culprit. The only problem is that it's sounding like they won't cover it under the 2 year factory warranty because they had to replace all three spark plugs and re-calibrate all three throttle bodies... Sounds like BS to me...

The bike was running just fine when I dropped it off for service. I'm thinking one of three things could've happened:

1) They kinked the boot/hose when they were doing the 6K service. OR

2) The boot/hose got kinked when they performed a recall service a couple months ago. OR

3) It's a manufacturers defect and I never noticed...

Any thoughts?

The differences in the tunes couldn't possibly be great enough to prevent the bike from firing even if somehow it "adapted" to the "leak". Tell them to put the original tune back on and see if it starts. What was the point of replacing the plugs/synching the TB's (and charging YOU for it???) if it still won't start? Sheesh, I'd be IRATE if I were you. Even if this BS was true, it is no fault of yours, so the warranty covers it. What dealer is this? Apparently Triumph missed weeding this one out...

Got the bill from my Triumph dealer today - they only charged me for the oil change - all that other BS was covered under warranty!

I guess they were sensing my anger over the phone!

Should be back riding this weekend if this weather clears out!
