I knew I wanted a better sounding exhaust from the beggining. I also wanted something that didnt look stock (That excluded the TORs). Im also a cheap bastard. So I found some CF cans on ebay for less than $30 a piece. PIcs here. As you can see in the second pic there is an adjustable baffle that can rotate to completely close off the outer holes. Now I was thinking of mounting one of these just past the O2 sensor down low. Or mounting both in the stock location. Opinions please, even if you guys think im crazy and it wont work.

Hotmail,

With respect to mounting both cans in the stock location, while they might look OK, you would probably be lucky if they don't mess up you tuning and performance. There is a fair amount of science goes into exhaust design, with things like pipe lengths, pipe diameters, can length etc all playing their part in performance enhancement. Unless these pipes were designed for the S3, it's unlikely that they would be good on your bike.

As for mounting just one after the O2 sensor, all of the above would apply and it probably would be loud enough to attract cops from the next state.

I may be wrong ( I frequently am) but thats my 2c worth

I agree with Legman, but won't a power commander solve most of those problems. I've seen all sorts of exhaust configurations on the S3. There was a picture of a turbo S3 with the pipe right under the kick stand on here the other day. He was hitting over 155mph, I think the article said.

My point being where there's a will there's a way.

Tune up

No PC for the 05-06... yet... And I agree with ALL of the above. You'll get ***** performance at best... But the idea is definately a good one!! Decent little cans too...

I figure that with both in the closed position they cant flow a whole lot more than the TORs. After all, they are still flowing through the puny looking skinny crooked pipes.

Mounting low down will be way too loud - the whole reason for two cans was because Triumph couldn't make one full size can quiet enough..

As for in stock position these should not be too bad - yes loud, yes will need some mapping work but we (wolf) have tried some 12" long 31/2" diameter stubby cans on the bike and they did work pretty well - still very loud with two but hey, some people like that..

Why not try it and see - I can do you some inlet pieces to weld on to the front so that you dont have to mess up the stock pipes (to reduce the inlet to 38mm from the 2" you appear to have there)
