Anyone running the Staintunes? I saw a pic of them and like the way they get rid of that sandcast connector where the O2 sensor plugs in. Do they tuck in nicely? Sound? And did ya remap? Also looking for a source and cost of them.

Thanks

I don't know about their pipes for the trip, but I have a set on my Aprilia and they're nicely made and sound fantastic. I'm looking for something a bit stubbier for the S3, so I'll probably end up with the TORs.

Hey Vin,

I have the Staintunes. They are well made, up to their usual standard, are easy to fit, sound great, with or without the baffles, and even without the baffles are not too loud.

They tuck in well, are longer than stock but extend in both directions.

Staintune claim that they don't require remapping, and I found that to be the case, however my dealer convinced me to try the off road map. It still runs OK, but feels a little richer, maybe not quite as crisp as before, but just as smooth, and even all through the range.

Last weekend on a 500 km ride I found that my economy has improved with the (richer) off road map - 16km per litre as opposed to 15km per litre with the stock map.

I intend to put it on the dyno soon with both maps to check the air/fuel ratios and power and torque. The bike feels good to ride with both maps, so I can't tell you any more until after I dyno it. When I have the stock map in it I might put the stock pipes back on to compare the power and torque of the Staintunes to the stockers. It only takes about 45 minutes to do the swap.

The guys at Staintune told me that they keep pipes in a warehouse in the US and you order online from their Australian site, and then they ship to you from their US warehouse. Last time I checked they did not have the 05 S3 pipes listed as being available in the US but if you email them they respond very quickly, so they will tell you if they have them.

I have no connection with Staintune, I just like the pipes.

Thanks Legman!

They do look good on your machine! Side benefit of losing that sandcast looking collector too! I imagine you lost a little weight from the bike too. That is a nice looking stand. Where'd you get it? I had a pitbull for my previous bike, but it gave me a couple of scary moments when I thought the whole show was gonna tip over, and it seemed to take a lot of effort to get the wheel off the ground too.

Curious about what kind of riding season you have down there. It is just about over here in Oregon, cold, rainy leaf covered roads here now.

Thanks again!

Stand is an Australian made stand by Sharp Racing. They call it Mono Rear Stand (see the website)

I don't know whether they export to the US.

Riding season is pretty much year round here in Melbourne. I got the bike in the middle of winter (June) and have ridden most weekends since then. It does get cold and wet but, snow is virtually unknown here.

Yeah we're lucky down here, we get to ride all
year round! Guess that's why they called it
the lucky country.

I can recommend the Sharp stand too - got
one for my '04. I can get the bike on and off
the stand - no problems!!!!
