Hi everyone, this is my first post...
I've been riding this bike for 2 years, and can't afford to bring it into the shop to do an oil change anymore. I also lost the owners manual that came with it.

I went to the dealership and got a gallon jug of synthetic oil and the correct filter, but i don't know what the engine oil capacity is...can anyone help me out here? I can't find this info anywhere. Also, if you know the oil filter and drain screw torque specs that would be awesome.

thanks a lot!

The oil capacity is approx. 3.6 qts. Don't just dump the whole jug in there. The oil level should be between the marks on the sight window(with the bike upright) after running for a minute to fill the filter. I just tighten the oil filter hand tight, using a piece of inner tube for grip. I think the drain plug NM is 9, but I just make sure it's tight. And replace the crush washer on the drain plug. And to save yourself a few bucks, go to WalMart or wherever, and buy the 5 qt. container of Mobil 1 Gold cap synthetic for your next change. Oh, and a Purolator Pure One 14612 filter.

oil filter usually says on the box x amount of turns past contact with the seal, i go the k&n route since i can get them the same price as the walmart whatever they have and if my memory serves me corect its like 1\2 or 3\4 turns. on the drain plug just tighten it so it's not gonna fall out and you're not ripping out the threads. this is not to single you out at all but merely to comment on how people on here are forever asking for torque specs and whatnot. I think I've taken one of my cars to a mechanic and none of my bikes and i think the only times i've ever used my torque wrench is when I'm actually inside the engine messing with head bolts or with something involving a gasket. And no thank you very much, I've never had a drain plug fall out or oil start leaking because something wasn't torqued exactly to spec.

My owners manual says the oil capacity for my '01 Speed Triple is 4.22 US quarts.I use Amsoil 10/40 in my S3 and 20/50 in my Trophy. It's quite a bit less expensive than the Triumph Mobil oil,at least down here in the States, not sure about Canada. The Amsoil oil filter is less expensive too.I read an article a while back in one of the consumer magazines, which rated Amsoil at the top for synthetic oils. And no,I'm not an Amsoil salesman.

My Triumph workshop manual lists 4.0 liters including filter for a "Dry" fill, which I think means that you can't get all the oil out during a change. It'll take that much after a teardown, maybe. Whatever amount of oil it takes to get the level between the marks is good. For me that's around 3.6 qts.

There's a workshop manual for the 01 Speed Triple and Daytona here. Should tell you all you need to know.

It's 73Mb, hope you're not on dial-up

Quality filter available from Wal-Mart under the name "Super-Tech 6607" if you don't mind paying under $2US. It's made by Champion Labs, the same folks who make the K&N oil filters. They also carry Shell Rotella synthetic. I hate Wal-Mart... no, I love Wal-mart.... OK, I'm undecided.
