Recently browsing a stuntbike magazine and various forums that deal with the scene and its followers and of the various bikes I see discussed, never the S3. With the exception of Triumphs new sponsorship of Kyle whassisname (sorry cant remember) no discussion whatsoever about this supposed ideal 'stuntbike' and it's wheelie tendancies. It's all Honda F4i, 929, 954's and the various Gixxers for the most part and other variants of the big 3 with Yamaha not really mentioned much to speak of.

Just thinking out loud perhaps but I've heard for a while of the Triple being a great stunt bike, just never seen one being used for it (outside of the one wheel wheelie school) again with factory sponsorship and not the layman taking the plunge.

Not like I wish it were seen universally by that crowd in particular, but I'm taken aback by the total lack of mention for this factory streetfighter.

It's very simple. The S3 is a great stuntbike, but like a lot of things that work well it is put aside by a particular sub culture because it isn't fashionable. These people are just more into their gixiers and ducs and etceteras.

Their loss.

It's the same reason you pick up a custom bike mag and all you see are Harley Davidson customs. HDs are mechanically junk, but it's what is fashionable to make customs out of.

Or my other favorite example, go to your local hot rod show and look to see how many Ford model A street rods there are out there running Chevy engines. Probably 90%. Does Chevy make a better engine than Ford? Nope. (Cheaper to build maybe) It's just the engine that's fashionable to put in hot rods.

My opinions of course, and they do not necessarily represent those of our sponsors, their children, or their brother's roommate.

The bikes mentioned are much cheaper than the S3 and I am not sure if the oil pickup on the S3 is optimal for long wheelies.

If I remember correctly at least the 955 had to be modified to pick up oil from the back of the oil pan, or you would risk seizing the engine. I have no idea if the 1050 is the same or if it is better for wheelies in the stock form.

I've emailed both Duker of RideTeamTriumphWisconsin and Kevin Carmichael and both have stated that they have had no issues with oil starvation. Kevin has only modified his because he goes beyond 12 O'clock.
