I know they are 2 completely different animals, but I demo'd a Speed Triple this weekend at my local dealer and enjoyed everything about it. The seating position, the bars, the sound, the handling, everything... So now I am worried... I ride my Speed Four and still smile when I'm tucked down and twist the throttle, but I am finding myself, especially today stuck in rush hour traffic, thinking maybe I would rather be on a Speed Triple... I have a deposit on the D675, and now I am having second thoughts... What should I do???

depends on what you want to do really, have a bike that's really good at going fast or just good at everything else aside from interstate travel. i mean you can go on and on about every difference between the two(and there are A LOT of differences) but basically it just comes down to whether you want an all out sport bike or something a bit more torquey and tuned down for everyday life. personally i think i've decided my triple is getting downsized by a few hundred CCs.

Or you can go in between and get the Daytona 955i

Yeah, but even the 955i and the 675 are two very different beasts. The 675 is going to be THE narrowest and lightest middleweight bike on the street, while the 955i is basically a speed triple with a fairing and a slightly different motor tuned for high RPM HP.

I'd go with whichever bike you are comfortable sitting on and truly enjoy riding. Would you be more than happy to endure rush hour traffic on a scrunched 675 but whoop ass in the twisties and on the track, or would you rather have more daily comfort and a bastard bike that can wheelie like a SOB?

If you love your Speed Four, then you'll probably love the 675 even more. It'll probably be a fantastic bike. Like the Speed Four only more so.

BUT My personal opinion is that if you buy the Speed Triple you will ride it more. It just calls you from the garage: "Come riiiiiddddeee meeeeee! You knowwwww youuuu waaaaant tooooo!" It's like a drug. Or a little devil in red satin on your shoulder.

On the other hand, with my Speed Four I was always thinking: "Is it really worth it today? By the time I get to any good twisties I'll be tired of riding the darned thing. My back will hurt and my hands will be numb. Commute to work? Just not worth it."

Just an opinion from a guy who's owned both.

At first I loved my fiance's Sprint ST, but after riding it for a while the clip-ons just kill my back. I'd hate to ride that thing on a long cross-country trip...

If you get caught in traffic I would prefer the upright seating position of the S3 rather than being laid over the tank of a sports bike. My S3 is much more comfortable in traffic than my TT600 was and that didn't have an aggressive sports bike riding position.
But we are all different and it’s really no good taking another riders advice about a bike for yourself as we all have different views.
If you need to make a choice just get out and ride them on a test only you must decide, as you have to live with your decision.
For what its worth I would go for the S3 1050cc beats 675...........

I had the same decision to make when I decided to get rid of my Daytona 650, and I went with the S3 because;

- the attitude factor - the S3 is a thug

- on the S3 I have loads of fun below 100mph - I found myself doing very naughty speeds on the Daytona.............

- the seating position on the S3 will be much more forgiving than the 675

I wasn't sure I'd made the right decision until I picked the S3 up and then I was certain it was the bike for me!

You mentioned you ride in traffic. If that is one the main critieria you'll probably want something with a robust cooling system. The S3 is a hoot but it's not know for running cool. The fan comes on at the drop of a hat.

Thanks for the responses... I can relate to the view of that the Speed Four makes you want to go fast... It seems like it rewards you the most when the speed is up... My Speed Four's fan comes on all the time too... I live in AZ and the bike is always blowing hot air on me... lol... The Speed Triple actually seemed to run cooler than my Speed Four... And yes my riding is primarily in rush hour traffic, so after riding the Speed Triple this weekend, when I rode to work and home yesterday and rode to work today, I kind of wish I had a Speed Triple right now... Unfortunately I wont be able to ride a D675 and then decide, they never like to give out test rides, the only reason I was able to ride the Speed Triple is because Triumph sent their semi across country to do demos at various dealerships... I can understand why they dont do motorcycle test rides, but without the demo, I wouldn't of experienced the Speed Triple, and wouldn't of ever known how much I enjoy it... I think I want the Speed Triple, but like I said I put a deposit on the D675 already and the dealership wasn't too receptive to me changing my mind... I guess I will wait until March, and go from there, I am sure there are people wanting to atleast sit on a D675 before making a decision, and if I do go with the Speed Triple, I am sure that the D675 will fly out of their showroom... But keep the responses coming, I can certainly relate to a lot of what's being said...
