While riding yesterday, when just rolling along at about 3k revs in second gear I noticed a harshness in the drive line.
When I got home I put the bike up on the stand to lube and adjust the chain (my first thought was a dry or badly adjusted chain). The chain was okay, but when rotating the wheel, I could hear and feel (through the wheel) a harsh scraping/grinding noise. I removed the chain guard, and the sprocket and chain (to eliminate them as a source of the noise) but the noise remains. It is totally unlike the noise of a brake pad dragging on the disk so I doubt that is the cause. I am thinking wheel bearing..........It feels like a dry or failed bearing. The noise only occurs over about 45 - 90 degrees of a full wheel rotation.
Does any body have any ideas, or experienced anything
similar. The bike is 4 months old and has done 6k.
Today is a holiday, and the weather is perfect.....I should be riding.....
