Hi guys,

I'm looking to take the wheels off my bike soon but looking at it I'm wondering how to jack the bike up with my lift as the downpipes run under the engine making it difficult to lift.

What do other people use?

Regards

Oliver

If you don't have a front stand that allows you to remove the front wheel, take a couple of tie-downs and hook them to a rafter and between your handlebar clamps to stabilise, and use a jack and a piece of wood under your rear suspension like 02s3 said. Loosen all axle nuts/bolts before jacking!

One way I have done the rear wheel is to pass a length of longish heavy duty round bar through the spindle, place an axle stand either end of the bar, steady the bike whilst jacking it up (block of wood between jack and underneath of bike) and slip the stands underneath the bar and lower.

If you place the right hand stand further out you can slip the wheel off the spindle far enough to put a third axle stand inboard of the wheel - enabling you to remove the outer stand and pull the wheel free.

This got to be a bit of a pain after a while and eventually I built my own copy of an Abba stand.

<--another one hanging their bike from the ceiling. usually if I'm doing something that requires going to trouble of getting it up I just go ahead and take off the body work and hang it from the subframe in the rear and the tank mount tabs in the front.

To get the rear wheels of the ground I use an Abba Probike stand, which can be used by a single person and is very stable in the transition. To then get the front wheel off the ground I use a trolly jack inder the sump. Between the jack and the sump I use a thick piece of ply to spread the load.
