The last time we had the front wheel off we hoisted it with tie-down straps attached to a roof joist, & wrapped around the handlebars. Steadied with a floor jack & 2x4s.
Bars are now aluminum, so don`t want to do that again. No longer have a floor jack either. But I do have milk & orange crates, some strong strapping, & 2x4s.
I think the cut priced front stand is the same brand as my rear stand, which is abit "springy", but works non the less. They are very commonly for sale at most bike shops. Tho` "not the best", I think quite usable for the occassional short term. With precautions taken of course.
Nobody liked our use of a van front bumper & jack as a bead breaker either, but it worked.
