Ok well its getting pretty cold in the mountains here and I was wondering how you have gone about protecting yourself from the wind.

I have looked at fairing replacements but really dont want to remove the front wind screen and most after market solutions are bar mounted and will not work with the spedo, fairing config on my 04 s3.

I was looking for a winshield that can be connected to the existing fairing or mounted some other way.

I was also looking at buying some hand guards, Any thoughts?
Thanks
Thomas

I installed a Lamaria lip for a 600 mile ride and I not sure I'm going to take it of now. I had a lot of turbulence in my helmet due to the fly screen deflecting the wind to my chest and up into my helmet. With the lip that's all gone. Wind goes over my head now.

The looks are questionable but with my 04 SE the black blends right in. Take a look and see what you think.

I tried the Laminar lip and found I didn't like it. It seemed to alter the steering dynamics with the way the wind came around it rather than over it. The Roadracing fairing is a lot better for wind although it increases helmet wind noise a bit.

Sorry about having my ugly mug on the bike at the time. The're Daytona Bike Week photos. Only downside to the Roadracing fairing is that it is like $500 and made-to-order from Italy. I got lucky on ebay and found this one for like $400 used.

What are the attachment points of that roadracing fairing to the bike Kuhlka?

Same question to you, XSPEEDX, does the pixie fairing just attach to the back of the instrument display via those 2 bolts?

Oh hell, the pixie hat has a plastic plate that bolts onto the same mount the speedo bolts onto. Pretty simple install. You can drill holes and bolt the laminar lip onto it if you're not hip to the 3m tape thing. I used the 3m tape and after 500 miles in off and on rain it came half unstuck so I just ripped it the rest of the way off. The only time it really helped with wind was when I was totally ducked behind it, but that pretty much defeats the purpose for tour riding.

So right now I've got just the pixie hat on and it does a good job of deflecting the wind up to my shoulders rather than directly to my chest. It is a notable difference and looks pretty good IMHO.

The Roadracing fairing has its own integrated bracket that is permanently attached to the fairing and replaces the stock mount. The headlights mount under the fairing and you get a separate aluminum bracket that bolts around the ignition to mount the speedo to. I'd rather have a hard mount for the speedo as the little bracket is annoying. However, the Roadracing fairing gives the best wind deflection.

It use's 3m two sided tape and comes with screws if needed. I have had it up to around 140 and over 800 miles and it stayed with tape. I have noticed no steering changes at all. For 75 bucks I love it. The $500 one looks better but I don't have that kind of duckets. The cool thing is I can remove the lip and still have that streetfighter look.

well I found a local shop that carries both the laminar lip and a knoxk off on the road racing fairing for 100 bucks.

I looked at both and tried the laminar lip and It still puts the wind up the helmet... (In a little over 6 foot) ***** oh well hes ordering the touring version of the laminar lip that is 3inches taller. we are going to see if that will help. same shape and size onj the bottom so it should mount right up.(bolting it any way. )

Thanks guys Ill let you know how it comes out.

Hey kuhlka Where did you get those barend mirrors? those look really sweet.
