Can any dealer mount and balance a rear? Are there any Triumph -specific parts or tools that are helpful or necessary?

Many thanks,

Pretty much any dealer can change a tire. For me, I always remove the wheels and bring them into the dealer rather than the whole bike...........usually saves a little on labor costs. I don't think there are any special tools required, at least there arn't on my '04.

The 2 dealers I have went to that were not triumph dealers had to go and buy a socket to fit the rear axle.

other than that thats about it. the first place I brought ot to used a BIG cresent wrench.

if I had a front stand I would just bring the Wheel down... no alignment or anything needed to mount the rear.

I have removed the rear wheel, using a rear stand. DaffyDuc, I'm assuming the socket your two dealers had to purchase is the same one I have purchased and have used to remove my rear wheel. I'm also assuming that you meant a rear stand, as opposed to a front stand.

Many thanks again,

I just "strapped" my front end to the rafters in my garage to lift it off the ground and used my center stand for the rear. If you've got strong enough beams in your garage it works well!!!

The only problem can be an adapter to balance the rear wheel (single-sided swingarm). I need a special one for my BMW, but I bought an excellent balancer that included it from Marc Parnes. About $100. Well worth it.

Now that's the kind of thing that I've heard about, and I'm concerned about. Is there any way to know ahead of time if there will be a problem? Do the conical spacer, washers and crown nut come into play here at all (that is to say, should I bring them with me)?

I just popped the bike up on the centerstand and took off my rear wheel myself after buying a socket for the job. I've got a buddy who works at the local Harley/Buell shop so he does all my dyno/wheel work for free, hehe.

Well, the relatively close, highly regarded Honda dealer told me to defecate in my chapeaux and put it on. Probably didn't have the right adapter, they said.

Yes 2 different dealers did not have a large enough socket

and no I just tried the Front hanging from the rafters thing yesterday and It worked well. Thanks
