Hi all,

just lookin at my new bike with all of 12 miles on the clock and then I notice............

The pillion pegs have a rubber stop on the inside which is touching the silencer on the rh side (from the rear) and on the other side the silencer is about 15mm away from the pillion rest rubber??? what the...

Looking at the silencer heat shield on the rh side of the bike its only 2mm from the mudguard moulding, on the lh side there is a gap of about 6mm.

Does this mean my silencers arent mounted correctly? it looks like the two silencers are not spaced equally from the pillion pegs.

Any ideas?

I think your rh silencer has not been mounted correctly. When you loosen the silencer clamping bolt it is very easy to turn the silencer a bit into the symmetrical position with respect to the other side, no problem.
I've de-/mounted the silencers any times to make holes through them for a better sound, so I know it's very easy to turn them a bit.

Good luck and enjoy your bike :-D

There's a slight anomally due to the pipe configuration of two pipes running up the right hand silencer as opposed to one running up to the left silencer. I've never noticed that the silencers are unequal although the pipe heatshields near the foot pegs have slightly different gaps.

Take it from a perfectionist buddy: NO BIKE will be perfect in any way. YOU have to make things line up, use cable ties to make cables and wires look tidy, and buy many items the bike should have come with.
And the same goes with service. I always do my own service since nobody does it like me, but when it's time for the inevitable trip to the dealer due to recalls, TSBs, etc., don't expect the work to be perfect either. I've always found at least one thing wrong when I get home and check the bike thoroughly (from stripped bolt heads, battery terminals loose, missing screws/bolts, problem not resolved... you name it. I'm still confident I'll get a job perfectly done by a dealer in my lifetime :hammer: , but don't hold my breath.

The definition of a lemon in most states is having the same problem at least three times, and the vehicle being disabled 'x' number of weeks in a 6-month period.

Good luck buddy, and just like me, program your mind that you'll never own a perfect bike or car. Just enjoy it, and make it as perfect as possible over time yourself.

ELP,

^5 to that - if you hold your breath waiting for a job perfectly done by a dealer your lifetime will be much much shorter. Only use dealers if you "have" to and when you do, go over your bike with a fine tooth comb!!!!!!!!! I am not the most mechanically inclined person, but I do manage to do most of my services myself (motorcycles and autos) and have faired far better by doing so!!! It's your life out there on the road and from my experience, dealers do not look at it that way, so you have to!

I have had handle bars left loose, oil over filled, seat left unsecured etc etc.............and if I do have to take my bike to a dealer, I don't even leave there without going over "everything"!!!!

bonnie,

ELP is right, you will never get a "perfect" new vehicle. Just take your time, go over your bike, check bolts, fluids, hoses etc.. and make any adjustments necessary. Unfortunately it is the way it is but, it is your life out there so it does benefit you to go over everything.

I have to say that the other lads are dead right. I'm megga fussy when I inspect my bikes and cars. When I picked up my S3 I was delighted as I thought at last I had found a bike with no delivery faults. She looked the bizzz. No obvious problems. Then I looked closer. The chain had light rust on the side plates. An ill fitting seat staples had marked the petrol tank. Both were repaired on the waranty. The speedo computer showed that the bike had done 90mph yet it only had 5 miles on the clock. (maybe that was the factory rolling road). First time in the dark I realised the lights were seet too high. Those little foibles behind me the bike is the biz....

Yes, they give it some at the factory. It is part of the quality control.
