Noticed today that my M4 exhaust pipe is cracked and very wobbly on the bike. I would like to replace it and I need opinions/suggestions. I have a 99 Speed Triple. Thanks!

Why not just find someone who can weld stainless and have it repaired?

Vclune - can you post or send a picture of your mounting bracket? I think the hanger is the culprit of the crack due to the pipe not fitting snug inside of the hanger.

Can I send the pic directly to you, I have not figured out how to post pics on the forum.

My bracket is different then yours. It looks like a "Y" similar to the stock bracket and made of titanium. No rear peg for passenger.

The rubber lined metal band that wraps the pipe is what holds it regardless of the bracket I would think, but your probably right in your reasoning for the crack.

Welding stainless is no problem and should be easy to get someone to fix for you, unless your just wanting something new, which is understandable we all like buying new stuff.

Stainless steel tends to work harden and crack when exposed to excessive vibration. The best course of action would be to write to the manufacturer and ask if they could supply replacement end caps that could be welded in over the top of the existing one. I'd get one for the other side as it probably won't be far behind this one (asssuming it's a 2 can system). Then you'd need to see about making a more rigid mounting bracket.

Hell, the manufacturer might even send you a new can if you write a suitably polite letter. Often manufacturers consider the good customer relationship factor is worth this.

There should be a rubber strip between the exhaust hanger strap and the can. It doesn't look like you have on in the pic. If that piece was missing it would cause the can to wobble.

I agree with you comment on the black rubber piece missing. This exhaust was already on the bike when I bought it from the first owner. I think maybe he just used the original Triumph exhaust hanger which is why it doesn't fit well with the M4 pipe. I am going to contact M4 tomorrow to see about a replacement hanger and/or pipe. Thanks for all the replies.

I got the new exhaust hanger from M4 today (with the rubber liner) and the exhaust is welded up. Not the prettiest thing ever but it will last until I have the money to buy a replacement pipe.

Thanks for all the replies.
