Heard the 'stock' and 'TOR' sound files provided somewhere on this site and the TORs are not obnoxiously loud, so even if my new (due in Nov) '06 backfires, I'm willing to buy the TOR cans and install the new map (pricey at $600, but cheaper than any Monster system, which I'd replace no matter what -fugly).
BUT, am I in for lower fuel mileage? Obviously the new map is shutting down fuel delivery on deceleration, but don't know if it's adding more fuel as well. I don't plan to touch the intake at all, so it should be the same. Just curious.

Please also post previous (stock) and current (TORs) miles per tank, if you will, and kind of riding involved to achieve that.

Thanks for your help, and have a great weekend.

Judging anything by sound files is a nearly futile exercise, most especially loudness. But I don't think you will be disappointed.

Mine were installed early in the break-in process, and had the old map at the time, so my numbers are based on too many variables and would not be helpful to you. However, the new exhaust does require a richer mixture than stock. Whether this translates to lower mileage will depend on how you ride. I have found mileage in this configuration is more sensitive to throttle usage than on smaller Triumphs.

Thanks for your help John.
But how many miles do you typically get per tank? Need to have an idea. :hammer:

The miles per tank on my S3 for stockers vs. TORs are pretty much the same. This is the same doing sporty high rev riding or long distance mid rev work - there is no noticeable difference to the stock setup.

Usually the trip computer shows an average of ~7 liters per 100km no matter what the pipes are and the refueling frequency seems to be roughly the same. So even though the TORs + map will richen up things a bit, I suspect most of the richening is done at low <4000rpm engine speeds where the worse environment saving leanings exist on the stock map.

So in the end the upgrade will not put a dent on your general mileage, if that is what you are worried about. In my opinion the TORs + map is how Triumph intended the bike to be in the first place, the stock setup is just there to pass the environmental regulations.

As far as I know the 1050 runs fairly rich as stock at mid range and high revs.

Okay, great news guys. That means that an extra $600 will take care of any FI problems.

Hey, need to know HOW MANY MILES PER TANK. :hammer: :hammer: And how many gallons the tank holds. Anybody?? Thanks again.

The book says the tank capacity is 4.75 US gallons. I've been getting 35-38 mpg with the TOR's and 20087 map.

The S3 is REALLY sensitive in terms of gas mileage to how you drive it. On average I'll get around 40 commuting. If I'm in the throttle all the time :-D Then around 35 or so... I've been as high as 45. I have the TORS and live in CO so I've got altitude to deal with as well.

The TORS are well worth it overall. What I have noticed is this bike, at 2200 miles is just getting better and better everyday. It is as if the bike has a mind of it's own and is just getting happier. Today it felt rather punchy so I hit some twisties an let her rip... Man I love this machine!!!

This is going to be my hooligan bike, so I decided to put an exhaust, and the TORs will be the ones. For once in my life, I like the looks of the stock exhaust (only on the S3) the best, and since everybody has had good luck with them and the map, why reinvent the wheel? :hammer: Plus they're the cheapest alternative anyway, although not by much.
Many people recommend to keep the stock system during break-in, but I don't think it makes any difference, does it? I'll leave intake and everything bone stock.
I was wondering if anybody has gotten the off-road map with the stock system. I might do that, and shop around for the TORs. If I find them substantially cheaper even with shipping, I don't have to go back to a dealer.

So basically the S3 is normally a 150-mile per tank bike, right? I can live with 150. The thing is sometimes a lot of fuel is not usable, and didn't know about this bike. That's why I was asking miles per tank, rather than miles per gallon, since I don't know how many gallons can be used. Later.

Good luck finding a deal on the TORS... They are 500.00 just about everywhere you look. No need really for dealers to discount them. Also, check to see if they have them in stock.

I usually fill my tank just before or just after the fuel light goes on. I check my level every morning before I take off. On average I fill 3-3.4 gallons each fill. My mileage is about 120-130 or so.
