Does anyone have any face masks balaclavas, or other cold-blocking accessories that both keep your face warm inside your helmet AND don't fog up your shield?

The best I could do last winter was a plain black cotton balaclava. The downside was that I had to breathe in an awkward way to direct the air down out of the helmet otherwise my entire shield would fog up in1 breath.

The nylon/neoprene mask I have is too thick around my ears and puts too much pressure on the sides of my head to be very comfortable.

I even tried a fleece scarf, but that was too bulky and restricted my neck's movement.

Anyone have any specific products they can recommend?

Kuhlka,

I wear an Under Armour Cold Weather Hood.

It's used primarily for cold weather football, but works pretty good. I keep an anti-fogging cleaner called Zook on my shields and it seems to work pretty good. The hood tucks into my jacket and keeps me quite warm while not restricting my movement. I bought it at a Dick's sporting goods store.

Try Triumph's buff made of microfibers. It's amazing! I used a fleece neck gator, and it did well enough, but I switched to the buff. The buff folds up and fits in a jacket pocket with little bulk. Of course, one has to decide when it too reaches its protection limitations.

Any high end lightweight one will work. Outdoor Research makes great stuff, you can also look into Mountain Hardware. I'm an ice climber, alot of my climbing gear works great on the bike when it is witch's t!t cold...

Helmax. It's a bit overkill for my location, but works great on cold mornings. It's neoprene with the Halo reflective strip arount the top. Keeps rain off your neck as well if you leave it our of your jacket. No need for earplugs when I use it either.

I also use an anti-fog spray from Cycle Gear that works great as long as you clean the inside of the visor about once a week.

An application of washing up liquid applied to the inside of the visor and then polished off prevents my visor from misting up. I apply it before all winter rides. It works for me.

Ok, my only other problem is that I wear glasses so my glasses sometimes get fogged up when it gets colder outside. I'm hoping the Zook works. I bought some down in Daytona during Bike Week but haven't used it much over the summer. That underarmor hood looks good. Perhaps that combined with the respro breath guard will do the trick.

I find that the trick with the Zook is to rub it in well until it forms a paste or wax like coating and then buff off the excess. Then I use a microfiber cloth to polish it really well. If you leave any residue on the shield it can distort your vision and seems to create the fogging, not prevent it. Went for a great ride today and had absolutely no fogging...

Thanks to my brother for providing the webspce to put up the slides...
