What length sliders go on the front engine mount by the rad on an '04 S3? I know skyking makes some, but sliders intended for something else that are the same length should work just as well (with a visit to the local bolt supply shop for the correct length and grade bolt).

I mounted the sliders on the rear bolts 3.5 inches - 88mm long on both sides.
One on the left sticks out a little more than the right, about a half inch - 10mm

I don't know metric conversions very well, I hope this is correct.

I also bought the first set with a 10mm hole, ---- I had to drill them out to 12mm
HINT: Pop out the aluminum plug to drill or it may just spin inside the slider while drilling,
- or - make sure you buy sliders with a 12mm hole.

I mounted the ones below on my girlfriends 05S3 on the bolts behind the radiator.

Sliders are 4 inches - 101mm, on the left side , and 2.5 inches - 63mm, on the right,
bolts just behind the radiator.
" These measurements are approximate ( don't have bike here to measure ) "

I bought some sliders made for a 98 Yamaha R1 ( I think ) with 12mm holes, for around $50. at cycle gear.

They just looked to be about the right size and I didn't pay attention to the package before I threw it out.

All I was looking for --- sliders with a 12mm hole, and one slider needed to be longer than the other a half inch -10mm approximate.
You will have to buy bolts that are 12mm fine pitch threads, and I don't know how long, each side is different, you will have to measure.

NOTE: if you use the rear mounts, the left side with the aluminum triangle motor mount. -- there is an electrical connection JUST behind the bolt.
If the bolt is too long it will CRUSH it, I had to grind the bolt a good bit to avoid crushing.

They look great , and mine have been tested ( Too stupid to talk about )
good news - had no radiator damage,
Bad news - broke turn signal lens, and broke off brake lever, bent in the foot brake,
( bent it back out) and scuffed the clutch cover.

If I do mine over, I will mount behind the radiator.

OOOPS - I just noticed you were looking for sliders for a 04 S3,
everything I wrote was for a 05S3 ------- never mind

I just bought both sets from SK. The fronts are way longer compared to the other sliders Ive seen for this bike. The are also Two peice design. For each side their is an aluminum peice that bolts to the frame. Then the seperate slider portion bolts to the aluminum. Not complicated but its obvious to see why they cost $85.

I was very recently wondering about that very thing, I have the sliders that mount on the rear of the engine w/ some angled bracket that locates the sliders forword of the engine mount bolt (hope that made sense) but was wondering if in a fall would the radiator have enough clearance from the road surface to avoid sure damage and I couldnt see that it did so I was considering sliders for the front of the engine just behnd the radiator.

Fall is here and although I've never had a get off on the roads yet, I would like to think that if I lowslide because of some collection of fallen wet leaves on the ground I can have some confidence that even though my turn signal light might be broken and some scuffing might occur elsewhere I can still ride home or to a safe spot as opposed to being forced to call a tow service because I have radiator damage that kills any chance at riding on.

Anybody else had thoughts like this or has both?

Anyone who has installed frame sliders on their own triple, is there anything of note that should be taken into consideration or is it as easy as it sounds to install?

What 'brand' did you use? Skyking or R&G Racing? Is it just me or do the SkyKing's look really really long?

Maybe next time I'll thoroughly read whats already been posted :hammer:

But what about that, do the SkyKings front sliders look anyway absurdly too long?

Have you tried the links in my initial post?

As a follow-up to the SkyKing's, are those front sliders intended to protect the turn signals as well, I mean are they that long and does the look "sit" well on the bike?

Am I constantly coming with the questions or what? :-D
