As a follow-up to the SkyKing's, are those front sliders intended to protect the turn signals as well, I mean are they that long and does the look "sit" well on the bike?

Am I constantly coming with the questions or what? :-D
If that is why the Skykings are so long I don't think that I want them as my front turn signals are going this winter...

I have the Rizoma frame sliders on the rear engine mounts and they look really good, however I am a little concerned that they don't stick out far enough!

Mine are 5 inches long and at the front end, they polish up really well.

Those at the rear of the engine look horrendous IMHO. Plus I bet I'd hit my legs with them. The front ones are the way to go, and in the name of aesthetics, I rather sacrifice the turn-signals (cheap on this bike) than having an ugly-looking slider. As somebody said, the goal is to prevent radiator damage, and that'd by my goal as well.
Based on the above criteria, which one is the best alternative? SK, R&G, or Rizoma (front bolt)?? Thanks guys.

Here are the Rizoma on the rear bolt:

There were no front bolt sliders on their website and the above would not work on the front bolt unless you machined a spacer and got some really long bolts-- which would look ret6rded.

I agree with your comment on the front turn signals... there was a thread in here somewhere in which someone knocked their bike over and the signal light mount broke (at the rad) and it caused the rad to leak! My signals are on their way out... haven't quite decided what to replace them with yet. I've seen translucent sliders with LEDs embedded in them (which could work as a turn signal) but decided against it as I'm anti-ricer (of course mounting a wings west aluminium spoiler on my rear seat cowl could also take care of any luggage mounting problems I've had . :-D ).

I had initially wanted an (inexpensive) replacement slider to the SkyKing that I could buy locally and mount on the front bolts, but the hassle might outweigh the cost savings! I sometimes hate being a cheap b6stard.

Be carefull of the type that use a cantilever as they can cause frame damage even on a low speed drop.

A bit related question to the slider install: can the triangular engine mounting bracket on the left side of the engine be safely removed without supporting the engine?

I was going to take it off during winter and have it painted/coated/anodised black, but browsing through the 2002 S3 service manual I noticed that on the "remounting the engine" section there n+1 steps, shims and bolt torqueing sequences involved.

If I just take the bracket off for a few weeks and slap it back will I misalign the engine in the process?

way to go Slvrsufr,
Thats exactly what we needed to see. I'd agree that the sliders dont necessarily enhance the look of the bike but they certainly dont make it look ugly and just looking at them I'd sure feel safe that they are there.

On the right hand side they look to have enough clearance to even same the oil cooler grille on the pre '05.

Slvrsufr, I get the impression that you had the misfortune of having those sliders being put into use, I take it they did their job well? Any points or concerns we should have regarding the length of the fronts at all?

Now for the part that goes overboard: Is there such a thing as/like a cluch cover slider for the Triple to protect those lower engine areas in the event of a crash. I've seen them for Kawasaki's and Yamaha's. With the wet slippery season upon us I'm thinking about this issue more than usual.

Unfortunately the last spill I took I layed the bike down at 60-70 MPH on the left side. I only had the mid frame sliders on at the time. That slider saved me from having to replace a lot of more serious parts. It The one thing that stoped me from being able to ride home was the left side engine cover in the first pic. As the slider wore down the cover made contact with the ground causing it to grind a hole in it, which in turn leaks engine oil. My left side blinker also got grinded on aswell. Im hoping that IF I do take another spill that the extra two sliders will protect the bike more. Preventative maintenance in my eyes. I personally like the front sliders, they add to the over all roguish look of the bike. Being that they are black they are dont stand out.
