Hey all,

I'd like to hear from anyone who's put a top-box on their S3. What kind of rack/mount did you use, brand of box, etc.

Having owned 2 bikes with hard luggage (my current Valk Tourer and a '98 Trophy), I know it's hard to beat the convenience and relative security of hard luggage. Leave it to me to finally get around to getting an S3 after Triumph quit offering their luggage for it

I've been eyeing a Hepco-Becker setup, but no experience w/ Givi and so haven't ruled them out.

Putting a top box on an S-3 is about one step away from bugee-ing a milk crate to the back.

Top box is great on a touring bike, but it just isn't "right" on an S3.

You can't put a top box on an S3! It's a hooligan bike, not a pack mule! I've gone on long weekend trips with a Triumph tank bag and a Luggage Locker Tail Pak, and can pack a lot of gear. I'll put hard luggage on my ST when I get one.

I agree with Speed3, you can't put a top box on an S3, it would look all wrong. I use a Ventura rack and I have two bags of different sizes which can be zipped together to give a total of 80 litres of space. The rack can be fitted or removed in 5-10 minutes. It is not an attractive rack so I only fit it when I have to carry a bit of gear.

Sorry about the quality of the photo, it was cropped out of a larger photo.

Legman - Those Staintunes look sweet. If I had an '05, I'd have those cans. :upthumb:

A true hooligan could appreciate a top box for carrying beer, or for knocking the teeth out of anyone who needs it

If I wanted a Sprint I'd a got one, but the S3 kicks ass. I know it, you know it, and the people know it. I juss want to make my S3 a bit more useful, and it's hard to beat a top-box for utility. Any mod that helps you ride the bike more can hardly be considered spoiling it.

Tailbags are fine, and I have one already, but they're a slackened bungee cord away from being made off with. And all that I've seen need a rain cover to be truly weather proof. Why mess around?

I'd suggest fabbing up a bracket which could bolt onto the existing rear peg mounts and perhaps where the grab rail mounts to. That should be more than enough support for a top box.

.

I put the heavy stuff in the front bag, which is over the seat, but I did lift the wheel once or twice.

Is that a problem?

I'm sure it can be done, and your right, whatever it takes to keep your stuff yours is a good thing. I'm happy with my setup. Legman, that does look like the front wheel would be very light!
