I'm of to Germany soon and was wondering if I should put my baffles back in my Art cans to make it all a bit more sociable. I dont get bothered here in the UK but was wondering if the Germa police are a bit more strick in keeping noise levels down?

Anybody have any tales to tell? Plead elet me know...

Cheers

MH

You should definitely put the baffles back in. The Germans are uber hot on this sort of thing. They don't smile kindly on traffic violations - at all. In fact you'd best check your replacement silencers carry the appropriate EC marks too otherwise you may get tugged for it.

German police can impose on the spot fines (verwarnungsgeld) up to 50 euros. You can put off payment for one week providing you post a bond or you'll face having your bike impounded.

I read elsewhere you want to be able to switch off your headlamps during the day. In Germany bikes have to run dipped headlamps during the day so I'd leave this mod until you get back.

Germans love speed cameras more than us - despite some stretches of autobahn being limitless.

Also you'll need to carry a warning triangle, first aid kit and spare bulbs by law.

Put the stock cans back on as ART did not get ABE approval on their cans and even an E mark is not kindly looked on in Germany - they want ABE (TUV ) approval

They can also impound illegal cans at the side of the road and dispose of them - though in fairness this is very unlikely to happen to a tourist - they are much harder on residents....

All in all though you're safer with your OE cans

As a Dutch tourist I know the police don't bother about the sound (only when it's very very loud) but they only look if there's an EC mark on the can(s).
Several experiences known of RSV Milles too loud but found OK because of the EC marks :-D
That's why I only removed most of the inside of my standard cans

Its 15 years since I was in Germany on a GSXR1100 with a loud S+S silencer. (young and daft) I think I'll take all the advice and put the baffles back in. Its almost std then.

Cheers Boys
