Hey all, I've got a little problem. About every third or fourth time I start up my '02 Triple the speedo(digital) doesn't work, it just sits on zero. I thought that maybe it had gotten wet or something, but I store it in a garage and everything. I tried unplugging and re-plugging in the instrument cluster and that didn't do the trick. Anyone had or heard of this problem? Thanks, Neil :???:

If you found something that worked let us know. My speedo stopped working today.

I have tried turning the ignition on and off again, sometimes it works sometimes not. I'm going to try the battery terminal thing this weekend. I will let you know the results. Sorry to hear about your speedo, it's been a real pain for me.

From reading the linked threads it looke like the ultimate fix is either a new tune or a reflashed ECU. I'm going to call my dealer today to see what they have to say about it.

I'll have to try out the tuneboy kit to see if a reload will work since mine is doing the same thing. Like 3/4 of the time I start the bike up and the speedo reads 0 even when I get rolling. really a PITA.

Yeah, this problem has been around the block a few times (check out the Sprint and Daytona forums as well), myself included.

Dealer re-flashed my ECU as well as tightening down a loose battery terminal connection. Problem hasn't come back.

I've been living with this for more than a year. Typically if it doesn't work on the start I ride a block or two until I come to a stop sign, or light and do a shut down and restart. 8 times out of 10 it will then work.

I'll try cleaning the terminals and if that doesn't work I may get a new battery. If that doesn't work...a d*mn out-of-warranty trip to the dealer I guess.

What my dealer told me was that the electronic sensor at the wheel is probably dirty and he said there should be 'a bolt down there you have to unscrew to release it'. Well, I looked all over the friggin place and didn't see a bolt or screw for me to mess with to get at the speedo sensor.

Looking at the service manual, I think I'll just take the front wheel off myself and check the speedo drive.
