Oh well,
I took the bike out Saturday only to discover a strange, very suspicious squicking noise coming from the front end, particularly loud when breaking (front only). I did try to see if I could find something around the disk or the tyre that could explain the noise, but could not. I have no idea what this is but EVIDENTLY EastEnd Motorcycles did something wrong. My feeling (and I am probably wrong) is that it is coming from the front brake.

The bike did not go anywhere from the day I picked it up.

Now I have to ride it back to Manhattan (about 1.5 hrs) since it was going to my mechanic for the valves, hopefully w/o either damaging the bike or killing myself since I have no idea what it is that is causing the noise.

The East End Motorcycles saga continues.

Is it a steady Squicking noise or intermiitent? My brakes go zzzzzzzzzzz when I apply them hard. Describe this noise better.

yes guys, I know it's hard, it's a bit hard to describe what I hear. I will try a bit more.

First, yes I did get new pads. The noise was not there though when I drove the bike from the mechanic to my home (about a 10 minutes drive).

It is like a bzzzzzz at high speed, and I hear it as soon as I touch the front brake lever, it is pretty loud, in fact at first I was not even sure it was coming from my bike. It becomes more like a bz-bz-bz as I slow down.

So, Speed3, it is like your zzzzzzzz (I don't know why I put a "b" in front if it) but it's got nothing to do with how hard I am breaking.

No, it is not intermittent, it just happens as I pull, even slightly, on the lever.
And I have never heard it before (I am assuming I got new pads before, can't remember though).

For some reason (most likely wrong) I thought it might have to do with the cable. This just because of the fact that I hear it as soon as I so slightly pull on the break lever so the impression is that it is happens more with that than the actual action on the breaks/disks. In oher words, the pressure on the lever is so little that I am not yet really breaking.

On of the cable seems a bit lose, the big one that normally is secured with a little rubber ring to the front hugger, but this may all be ok, I just don't know.

Thanks for trying to help ! I know it's tough

Did you forget to take off those playing cards attached with clothes pegs, the ones mounted that they flap against the wheel spokes making a cool "engine" sound?

ok sorry, my inner child had to say that.

Windwaves, by the sound of it, it has to be the pads.

I have a 99 model and it does this and it's caused by the square edges of the pads making contact with the holes in the rotors. Nothing to worry about.

Even when there is no pressure on the brake lever the pads "just" touch the rotors, so even the slightest pressure on the lever will apply the brakes, even though it doesn't seem like you are.

Hope this helps,

Mick

thx Mick,
hopefully that's what it is, as I really want to take the bike back to manhattan this w/e.

But it is interesting that I never heard this before...oh well, we shall see.

I read somewhere that you can take the pads out of the caliper and file the edges of the pad and this will quiet them down.
