I have an '02 and think I used a pipe wrench. Wasnt on too tight and has a tab-over lock washer. Also believe it to be left handed thread but not for sure.
Came off clean and easy. See no reason to buy a speicialty tool.

On my '01 it's a 36 mm. It is a left hand to loosen thread. I think it's important to torque that nut when tightening, so a pipe wrench is out for me... :hammer:

Please, in the name of all mechanics in the world who may have to work on your stuff after you do. Please use the right tool for the job!

A pipe wrench is for pipes or other round objects. For a nut, use a properly sized wrench or a socket.

The size is indeed 36mm.

An electric 1/2" drive impact gun works well with a 36mm socket. Yes, torque the nut back on to the proper specifications.

Pipe wrench.....GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!
