Next month I'll be getting a '72 Suzuki GT550 as my "commuter" bike. Anyone else save their favorite bike for non-commuting, and just ride a clunker to work?

My main reason is that I don't like to ride the S3 in crappy weather conditions (it's my baby!) and I see the GT as a means of riding more often to work and saving $$ with the ever rising gas prices.

That is something I have been pondering. And for the same reasons you mentioned. I just plan to get a 20 year old UJM to commute on and that will really make me appreciate the S3 when the trip/weekends arrive. (not that I don't appreciate the awesome S3 now.

I ride my S3 every day, year round.

Well, the reason I am looking for a "beater" bike is around here we have winter with snow and ice. I want the other bike so I don't have to spend as much time CLEANING the bike as RIDING it.

Tim

(P.S. I am sure if I lived in a tropical (relatively speaking) climate I would ride year-'round also.)
