So last week I went on vacation and when I got back my S3 would not start. I know while I was gone it rained a lot and my cover is pretty cheap.
When i first turn the key on the fuel pump/ fuel injection doesn't make a sound. Also when I put the bike into neutral the light does not go on even though I am in neutral. Even with the clutch in I can not get the bike to start.
The high beams and lights work fine and when I turn on the bike the neutral light goes on for a split second.
is fuse 11 the little fuse box under the seat?
And I don't have an alarm
My cousin has one. He is going to check everything out for me on Sunday. I was looking for possible reasons that it isn't starting so he knows what he needs to look at.
What would cause the fuel pump to not make the noise when I turn the key?
The battery being close to dead.
Your headlights are already drawing 10A when you turn on the ignition.
Do the lights stay bright when you turn on ignition?
Could you add your year/model & location to your profile please?
It's not something simple like your Kill Switch is it?
The headlights to seem bright and the high beams work with no problem.
And I added it (2007 Speed Triple and I live in NJ)
And its nothing like Kill Switch because I tried everything. Kickstand up down, Clutch in, out, and even tried starting in neutral and in first gear nothing worked.
So we looked at it real quick today my cousin said all the fuses and relays were good no rust or corrosion. The battery was strong and that wasn't the problem. He said he thinks that it might be the little metal box under the kickstand. He said the little metal box with screws looked beat up and very oily.
If bike is in neutral, side-stand switch (or position) is irrelevant
But since neutral light is not on, your ignition circuit is most likely dead.
Fuse 2, Key-switch, Fuse 1, Kill switch, alarm bypass connector plug, and then the EMS relay - those are all the components to check
You really need to get a meter & start measuring voltage across that chain, see where it is missing
just got finished finding out why mine did not start...follow the wire harness from the ignition kill switch to the inside right of the frame where the wire harness leads. There is a connector there with NO CLIP that connects the kill switch to the main harness. If that is unplugged or loose your bike will not start. If your dash is dead, head lights come on, but when you squeeze your front brake and the tail light does not illuminate...then the connector has come apart. Good luck! I hade to remove my tank and loosen my airbox to get the connector back together...
What is that connection in the picture? It is not connected to anything.
My bike is still having problems The dealership told me it was possibly the ecu and it would be 1711.00 dollars for a new one so I bought one off ebay and It did nothing. Im still with a broken bike and I lost my whole first riding season with my speed triple =[
Thanks! We are having the same problem. Last night i took off the front fairing and was able to flex that connection from the ignition. With the key "On" the power is intermittent when I wiggle the wires out of the ignition. I will cut back the wire harness cover and let you know what i find.
I find it difficult to believe that Triumph would build a 4th injector plug into the S3 harness, of identical dimensions, color and design, spaced equally with the other three FI plugs, but use it to trigger a charcoal canister purge system. Can somebody with a CA speed triple confirm this story? Never heard this before, and on the contrary I've heard about the common harness with the speed-4 from several Triumph geeks.
So now it's been several month that my bike has been sitting at the dealership and they finally told me they think I need a new speedometer. With installation it will cost 1500 dollars and there not even positive that's the problem. Any other ideas? They told me at random times the bike starts if they try but then when they turn it off it won't come back on.

I know this may be a dumb question, but did you load test the battery?
If you have checked the harness at the ignition switch and the head stock, I would say its the battery. Doesn't matter what it's reading just sitting there..gotta load test
a "new" battery shouldn't mean anything to you. Just go out to the garage and test the voltage. Then test it while you hold down the start button and see how much it drops..
I may be totally wrong, but it would be awesome for you if I was right..
