Anybody out there with a steering damper installed? I would like an Ohlins, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with an Ohlins, or other, damper kit.

Hey clownshoe,
back in '99 i had a daytona in which i converted to a speed triple and had bought a steering damper for it,i ran it for a very short time and found it just wasn't needed as the bike was just so stable i ended up taking it off. the brand was a "daytona" i think i bought from lockhart-phillips and it bolted to the two outer valve cover bolts then to the fork tubes.i definitely wasn't as quality as the ohlins brand but I'm glad i didn't pay as much for it either since i ended up taking it off.I do know that if your going to race your bike or track day it some tracks require a damper. just my experience.

Play with your front suspension settings before you blow a wad of cash on a damper. The stock setting for preload on my S3 forks was way soft. I tightened it up and played with the damping and the bike has a much more planted feel in the corners now. I sometimes ride pretty hard and I've never had any sort of headshake problems. Of course ymmv.

The roads are pretty much destroyed here in the Great White North, and I feel a damper is a good insurance policy against potentially life threatening tank slappers caused by big bumps or potholes.

What models and fitments would be available for an 05/06 Speed Triple? I own a Scotts Performance damper, but there doesn't seem to be any bracket kit for the S3 on their website.

Thanks for your input.

Regards,
