Hello All!, I just got my 98' speed triple today. Love it so far, I cant seem to get the cowling off of the rear so I can put on the pass. seat. It has the key, It turns and sounds like it is trying to open but does not. How can I get this off? Thanks Jon :hammer:

Try pushing down fairly hard on the seat/cowl while you turn the key and then lift up. The catch Triumph seems to use on all their bikes can be a real piece of work.

I agree pushing down will help. Once you get the cowl off, grease the catch so it works easier next time. A friend broke his key off in the lock a few hundred miles from home trying too hard to release his cowl. His wife had to drive hours to bring him the spare. D'oh!

Thank you for the reply, I finally got it off...the cable had come out of the bracket. Under there I found the owners manual and the tool kit. The guy I bought it from said he did not have it long. But, was miss leading about the cowl thing. He said it normally pops off. But, he told me he was unable to get the owners manual from the other guy...It was under the seat that he had never been able to take off. The bike has 17,000 mi. It looks like it needs an oil change. Appearance wise it looks almost new. I took off the fly screen and put on the rear seat. I want to do away with the rear fender and maybe do a different exhaust. But thats it. If it turns out to be a good bike, I'll keep a couple years and then look for a good used 05'. They are sooo sharp. Anyways, thanks againb for the reply! Jon
